Hello all,
Now we talk about layers and constitutional remedies, I also like to see something about this.
David wrote: "Normally, the vital force tries to expresses the totality of the symptoms as unity. This is called a "constitutional expression" because the essential nature of the symptoms is a unified whole."
I agree with him, I also use constitution this way, but it does not mean there are no layers involved. When you give Nat-m as a constitutional remedy, and say after four years Phos. comes up, then you can say Nat-m was also a layer. When you expected the underlying constitution, you might have seen it from the beginning.
In some constitutional cases you need only one remedy to cure everything In some layered cases you see pictures of different remedies at the same time (and some homeopaths also treat them simultaneously with success) and in other layered cases you see one 'constitutional expression' mainly at the time.
Luc the Schepper teaches you should every case bring back to the 'innate' constitutional remedies: CALC, SULPH, LYC, PHOS, CAL-P, SIL, BAR-C.
Most of those remedies are minerals involved in basic physiological processes. All the other remedies, according to him are given for layers. I don't know, I would at least also add GRAPH. (suggestions?)
If a developing child is strongly influenced by a trauma, she can be born with all the qualities of the layer remedy, and we say it is her constitutional remedy.
In fact this is bases on the Eizayaga model
1.. His constitutional layer refers to the basically healthy innate characteristics, mostly genetic and immovable. The purpose of treatment on this layer is preventative, to strengthen and fortify the constitution.
2.. Fundamental layer refers to the acquired characteristics, the purpose of this treatment is to to remove functional disorders and bring the patient back to his constitutional picture.
3.. Lesion layer, the pathology remedy.
4.. Miasmatic layer, the nosode remedy.
It is very helpful to recognise someone's innate constitution, it also tells something about his basic sensitivity.
PHOS is very sensitive, SULPH, LYC, SIL are moderate sensitive, CALC, BAR-C, GRAPH are hyposensitive. The added layer can only increase the sensitivity.
A PHOS constitution with a ARS layer is very, very sensitive, here Dr. Luc advises to treat to the constitution, and not the layer on top, like we normal will do.
There is also a group of homeopaths that believe there is a remedy that matches a patient's individual type (nucleus) which is unchangeable for life.(theory from Dr. Masi).
Is there anyone who can share his/her experience on this subject?
Kind regards, Piet

Re: constitution/ layers
Piet talked about the Eizayaga layer theory, including the lesion layer or
pathological remedy.
since different - dissimilar - diseases may occupy different parts of the
body simultaneously, should we necessarily use the term 'layer' for this
phenomena? the layer term suggests you cannot see symptoms of the
constitution underneath, but i think it is more like layers of overhead
transparencies.

Dear Andrew,
You have rightfully pointed out the difference between complex
diseases and true layers. A true layer is when a stronger dissimilar

of time on the constitution they may form a complex disease where each
disorder affects those tissues and systems for which it has the most
affinity (Org. 40). These are two different pathological conditions.
Hahnemann and Kent made this clear in their writings. In complex disorders
all the symptoms can be formed into a grand totality because they are all
active or latent. This situations does not involve dormant states.
In a layered case one centers the remedy in the active state with
special emphasis on the most recently developing symptoms with due respect
paid to the way in which the older symptoms have formed over time. Just
because a case is presented in layers does not mean that the patient needs
a different remedy for each layer. Many times one remedy will peal off many
layers because it has a affinity with the individual. Kent pointed this out
when introducing the term "layers' in relationship to the reversal of
symptoms as observed in Hering's laws.
Sometimes, a one-sided organic pathology becomes so developed in a
organ, tissue or system that it becomes the active layer that represses the
full constitutional expression. This is where the so-called organ, tissue,
system, drainage or lesional remedy come into play. In truth these
medicines are smaller remedies for one-sided disease states. This remedy is
chosen by the location, tissues, system, organs, etc.; the sensations,
discharges, discolorations, and other complaints; the modifications. times
and circumstances; and any logical and non logical concomitants.
This is when such remedies are truly indicated and can be a life saver.
One the remedy for the one-sided pathology is removed older chronic
symptoms will resurface. In this way one can works a case with very heavy
pathology backwards along the timeline by which it developed e.g. from the
one-sided state to the chronic miasms to the innate constitutional state,
etc.. This is no one fix pattern to this reversal but this offers one idea.
In other cases, the vital force is dominated by the collective miasms.
These are diseases of common cause and similar symptoms that demonstrate a
collective picture that suspends the individual innate constitutional
expression. Here we clearly see the clinical characteristics of the psora,
sycosis, TB, syphilis, HIV, chronic hepatitis, and the cancer diathesis,
etc.. Such cases need anti-miasmatic treatment with suitable mineral, plant
and animal remedies as well as nosodes. When a chronic miasm obstructs the
cure the nosode may be a very useful chronic intercurrent remedy.
There are some who treat every case in layers and others who only wish
to give the grand constitutional remedy for all situations. The true
remains somewhere in the middle. The central idea of Hahnemannian
Homoeopathy is to be open to any and every possibility. This is because
human beings and their disease states are too complex for any one simple
fix for every and all situations. Homoeopathy most of all is a system of
flexible response that can be tailored to the individual patient, the
nature and stage of the disease state, and time and circumstances.
