More Statins to be prescribed

Post by Lynn Cremona »

Just What the Doctor ordered!
New cholesterol guidelines could change how statins are prescribed

Under the new guidelines, more than 30 percent of U.S. adults may qualify for statin treatment as opposed to the 15% now being prescribed statins.

It's hard to know what to take away from this change. The NY Times reported that statins are already prescribed for one-quarter of Americans over 40. The change appears to put certain groups, like women with a high risk of stroke, into the category of those likely to get statins, but those taking statins to lower LDL to target levels may no longer need them.
A patient came to me recently who'd had a heart attack at a relatively young age, 49, and gone the conventional treatment route for a year. She felt amazingly good after the attack, but slowly felt increasingly bad from the treatment. Her BP was fine -- she didn't need anti-hypertensives but couldn't get her doctor to listen to her. Statins were causing muscle problems. So she went off all the meds and lied to her doctors. No primary care physician would see her without a cardiologist also being involved, ergo she's avoided docs.
Hard to believe that this is what our medical system is forcing people to do.
Peace,
Dale

The natural end result of scientific materialism is a denial of the subjective. This is why the doctor would not listen to the patient. This is also why us homeopathy boosters can't get skeptics to listen to us. Our subjective reports mean nothing to them.

Science is NO excuse for this SICKNESS of denial of the subjective. This is why I occasionally accuse homeopathy bashers of having bad relationships with other human beings, particularly their wifes. It is usually men who have this disease of denial of the subjective. If you do not cherish and listen to the subjective in other people and in yourself, then life becomes meaningless. Experience is anchored to the subjective. So even science requires the subjective. And whenever I see people talk about robots or computer programs becoming sentient, I laugh. (:->)
Sincerely,
Roger Bird
