[ARH-Animal-Health] Fracking

Post by Tanya Marquette »

I can type now on my computer, so here is my info:
In the US fracking has become a major issue in many communities.
It has horrific effects on the people, animals and environment.
It is causing earthquakes—easy to understand this one.
It pollutes air even more than the water and there is absolutely no way to control this.
The chemicals used in the water are considered proprietary information. However, one
congresswoman did some research and uncovered almost 600 chemicals being used, all
of them highly toxic/carcinogenic.
A film was made a couple years ago called Gasland. It was made by a man living in Pennsylania
where people were being snookered into signing leases with companies to do fracking on their land.
The footprint for a well is quite huge—not like a little property well for domestic water. It destroys the
land.
There is a sequel which just came out that I have not seen yet.
Watch Gasland online or buy a copy and begin to show it locally. Send the online link to others if you
can still get a free copy on youtube.
NYS is the only state which is holding out against approving fracking. This is due to massive organizing
efforts. Read about the efforts online. Get on a mailing list for constant updates. One tactic that has
been used is to demand health and environmental assessments. This is a law in state. The state would
have let a typical vague assessment pass if it weren’t for people constantly demonstrating, calling,
writing letters to legislators as well as the press, raising money for ads, etc. Big names in entertainment
were enlisted for support. The health assessment has been a big fight—trying to get the gov’t to do the
right thing. Pennsylvania, just next door has allowed fracking and it is decimating communities and
property loses its resale value due to the fracking and the toxic remains.
Netflix, in the US is offering a free showing now.
Interesting to see the deniers have gained first listing. I can only bet that the gas corporation money is
behind this.
Whatever you do, do something and do it a lot and do it loudly or you will see your country totally subsumed
by these energy corporations and their sociopathic greed.

Apologies for going somewhat off message, but this issue of fracking is becoming increasingly worrying, and has the potential to directly harm people’s health – asthma from pollutants in the air, poisoning from contaminated drinking water and soil. So I think as homeopaths we should be concerned.
Greenpeace seem to have hit on a simple way of slowing down the dash to exploit stores of shale gas around the country. Please read the information below, take the time to enter your postcode and find out if your area is at risk – and then think about joining the ‘Not for Shale’ movement by signing the declaration.

I had to think a lot before sending you this email.

With 30 of our friends sitting in a Russian prison on trumped-up piracy charges, it’s been difficult to stay focused on our work here at home.

But then I thought about what our friends were doing in the Arctic - fighting to stop an extreme form of energy that, if exploited, would be disastrous for the climate. And we have a rare chance to challenge extreme energy right here in the UK: fracking. But we don’t have much time.

So while we are still doing everything in our power to free the Arctic 30, we can’t let the frackers sneak into our backyards while our attention is diverted.

Right now, the government has earmarked nearly two-thirds of England for possible fracking, without fully understanding what effects it is likely to have on our health or the countryside.

What we do know is that if we want to tackle climate change, we can’t be digging new fossil fuels out of the ground.[1]

Find out if your home is at risk of being fracked. Look up your postcode at wrongmove.org now.

Fracking involves horizontal drilling that can extend two miles from the actual drill site, passing directly under the homes of those nearby.

Despite the government’s enthusiastic dash for gas, we have the power to make fracking very difficult, and may even be able to halt exploration in its tracks, if enough of us come together.

This is how it works: if you don’t want fracking companies pumping toxic chemicals under your home, you can say so. Then, any drilling there becomes trespassing; the frackers would be breaking the law.

All you have to do is declare that your home is 'Not for Shale' and you will be added to the growing legal block to stop fracking where you live.

But we need to act quickly, as there are hints that the government will try to change the law to support their dash for gas. [2]

Look up your postcode to find out if you could be fracked and join the legal block now.

The Arctic Sunrise crew have risked their liberty to help keep Arctic oil from being extracted. Now is our chance to take a stand to keep dirty fuels in the ground where they belong and say no to fracking under our homes.
