Seriously?
There will be more sandpapery harsh dust in the eye than dissolved sugar, which the body can absorb and use as food anyway. If the sugar is not dissolved it can scratch if there's a lot. A pillule in a cup of water is not exactly a sugar load. I've put an entire crushed pillule in one eye when I was in a hurry for the beneficial effect. (I would not do that with an alcohol remedy!)
That will probably be fine. Room temp feels better though.
The contamination happens when junk is allowed to enter the bottle opening from a used item, eg if they hold a cloth over the bottle mouth, and reuse it that way or re-use a dropper. A good way to use eyedrops is to pour a little onto a clean saucer and wipe/dose from there, and toss any leftovers - so nothing is introduced to the bottle to contaminate it. A good rule is to not stick anything into the bottle and not touch or hold anythig against the bottle opening or inner lid. Just open, pour and recap - make it a one-way thing.
Eyes are a very easy way to get infections started, esp if the immune system is not up to snuff due to vaccines or whatever. Persians are especially susceptible as they have convoluted tubules between eye and nose and they clog with great alacrity, encouraging infection: The tubules had to get convoluted as they did not shorten when the nose was bred short and bent (aka "with a stop"). Cats end up paying for those human manipulations of design, against the well designed natural ones.
Logic-wise, Mark Twain explained it:
If man were crossed with a cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat
Anyway - the Euphrasia drops are a good first aid for the situation. They provide the lubrication, the soothing and the infection prevention all in one.
Namaste,
Irene
