Hello Sue, how are you?
Can you explain exact what you mean here? Hahnemann kept case records
like every good homoeopath. In these patient records he recorded the
progress of his patients for better or worse. I have reviewed many of his
Paris casebooks, especially from the 1837 to 1843.

Re: Hahnemann's Letter Cases and Doctor Croserio's Letter/Sue
Hi David,
Thanks for answering.
I'm more or less well (have a bit of a virus but okay otherwise). How are
you?
Well, I'm starting the literature review by examining the foundation of
homeopathy in the context of the scientific method which includes
measurement of observations. Then I am contextualising this within the
trends, practices and thinking of the time.
Now, there are two sides to this as regards Hahnemann. There is:
a. the experimental pharmacology aspect (observations of the effects of the
substances on the healthy human body) and
b. the medical science aspect (observations of the effects of treatments on
the sick human body). Nowadays, this involves not just measurements for data
collection (e.g.blood pressure, blood count, Likert scales for subjective
data such as pain and quality of life and so on) but also medical
statistics.
I think you would agree no mathematics for data collection or describing
data after collection (percentages, frequencies etc.) was used in his
experimental pharmacology but he did use an empirical method (foundation
stone for the modern day scientific method).
What I'm wondering about now is how he ascertained changes in his patients.
Then I'm wondering whether he used this information to confirm the action of
remedies as observing them cause certain symptoms in a healthy body is not
the same as observing them cure these same symptoms (or any others in the
sick). As far as I'm aware only Hering did this?
If it's still not clear I'm happy to explain further.
Even some examples, with references, of how he documented would be helpful.
Regards,
Sue
