Hi All,
I was wondering if someone can answer my question. When i was pregnant, my hemoglobin dropped (I am already anemic), so my dosage of iron supplment increased. However, my ferrintin shot way up, but my hemoglobin couldnt' quite make it. Each time, my dose was upped, the ferrintin kept going up, but my hemoglobin would go up slightly, but it would never reach the appropriate levels. The doctors had no clue and I didn't know what to do. Thankfully my baby came out find.
But I wanted to know what happened with me? The iron supplement had vitamin C in it, so the absorption should be well, but my blood levels just wasn't good. Would anyone have an explanation for this? Or anything else I could have done. I want to be ready for the next time we have another baby.
Thanks so much.

Re: ferritin and hemoglobin
Your body was storing iron instead of using it. Try Ferrum Phos cell salt 6X as supplement.

What is ferrum phos cell salt? Is this something that will take the iron from the ferritin to the hemoglobin? I am fine now, but it only happened when I was pregnant. Is this safe to take during pregnancy (so I know for next time)?
Do you know why my body was storing it and not using it? Does that mean I have some blood disorder?

Re: ferritin and hemoglobin
You divert a lot of iron to growing fetus, so while your dietary intake goes in intestinal cells, to then be divided b/w iron for plasma and iron for ferritin, you keep sending iron to the baby. To complicate the story, absorbed iron represents only a fraction of iron needed for hemoglobin. Most of the needed iron comes from destruction of erythrocytes. Macrophages transfer most iron into the form that can be transported to bone marrow for hemoglobin synthesis. Macrophages also maintain storage pool of iron. Ferrum Phos - cell salt coordinates the work of macropahges.
