NCH ACTION ALERT!

January 6, 2011
Dear NCH Members,
We have just learned that the DRAFT Health Care "National Prevention Strategy" does NOT presently include "Integrative Health Care." Interestingly, the name and focus have been narrowed from 'National Prevention and Health Promotion Strategy' to just 'National Prevention Strategy.'
US Senators Harkin, Mikulski, and others wrote "integrative health" into 3 of the top 4 'purposes' of a new Federal Council setting the nation's prevention, wellness and health promotion strategy. They required an Advisory Group to include integrative health practitioners (Section 4001). Yet the 8-page DRAFT "National Prevention Strategy" http://www.healthcare.gov/center/counci ... _intro.pdf is virtually mum on respecting this Congressional intent. No Advisory Group has even been appointed yet.
There are many good things in this document. There is a commitment to "shift the nation from a focus on disease to one on health and prevention," but the Strategy, as proposed, attempts to tackle this change without bringing in the integrative care modalities that we know work so well.

John Weeks, of the Integrator Blog, published background information on the whole situation. http://theintegratorblog.com/index.php? ... Itemid=189
Please help us help homeopathy! We are asking you to submit your comments on the Health & Human Services (HHS) site (details below). Together we can make quite an impact and the government will take notice if there are a lot of responses. When posting your comments in the boxes provided, it is important to be polite but firm about why homeopathy should be included in any national health care strategies, including chronic disease prevention.

For example, you might state any one or several of the following points:

Posting comments in BOX #1:
-- The name and focus have been narrowed from National Prevention and Health Promotion Strategy to just National Prevention Strategy. This leaves out 'Health Promotion' which is an essential foundation for disease prevention.
-- Integrative health care is omitted from the Strategy, even though it is a cornerstone of health promotion. Homeopathy is key within integrative health modalities for health promotion, since it is a holistic system that treats and improves the health of the whole person.
-- The Council was mandated by law to form a Community Advisory Board that would include representatives from integrative health care groups. That has not been done and the DRAFT Strategy has been prepared without their input. The Advisory Board should be appointed immediately and given the opportunity to participate in the DRAFT Strategy.
-- Integrative health care, which includes homeopathy, should be given emphasis within the Strategy as it is was conceived by the law, highlighted in 3 of the top 4 purposes of the Council who created the Draft Strategy. It is essential to fulfill the Health Promotion goal of the Draft Strategy.

Posting comments in BOX #2:
-- the proposed National Prevention Strategy must include the highly-effective, relatively low-cost alternative health care modalities

Posting comments in BOX #3:
They ask for "evidence-based" actions to be considered in the Strategy. There are several ways to address this.
--Since research into "health-care promotion" is scarce at best, and most integrative health care modalities have not been privileged to receive NIH or corporate research money, we need to point out that there are emerging research studies that show both treatment and cost benefits. These should be recognized by the Council. An emphasis should be placed on promoting greater funding to research in health-promoting, integrative health care modalities.
-- Homeopathy has a strong body of research, especially from European countries, that should be included in the Strategy. Cite research: There are literally hundreds of high-quality basic science, pre-clinical, and clinical studies showing it works. If you wish to cite homeopathic research , please see the list on the NCH website. Scroll through the many categories, including "OTHER CLINICAL STUDIES" and "ECONOMETRICS" to bolster your arguments re cost effectiveness, patient satisfaction and treatment of chronic disease.

Posting comments in BOX #4:
-- Ensure that all the requirements stated by Senators Harkin and Mikulski, et al have been fully implemented, including establishing the Advisory Board and appointing all members.

Posting in the Open Comment BOX:
-- Homeopathy is 200-year old system of medicine that is being used successfully by tens of millions worldwide. It has a laudable 200-year old clinical record.

TO POST YOUR COMMENTS:
Go to: http://www.hhs.gov/news/reports/nphps.html .

1. Read the Draft Strategy.
2. Scroll down to the boxes at the end and type in your comments.
3. Each of 4 boxes asks for very specific comments: if possible, make your answers specific.
4. There is a 5th box for any Additional Comments.
5. Click on SEND.
Please do this now as the Comment Period ends Friday, January 13, 2011.
One more thing... Here's another opportunity for you to promote homeopathy:
Please read "Homeopathy: A Time-Tested Treatment for the Flu " by Larry Malerba, DO, which was posted on Huffington, and then make your comments or "Likes" to bolster the 'positive' view.
Thank you for your continued support and defense of homeopathy!

Dear NCH Members,

We have learned that CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp) will be broadcasting a program on MarketPlace , tomorrow evening, January 14th, which is full of falsehoods and misinformation about homeopathy.
We are writing to ask you to get involved with the social media discussion already going on here to rebut the many false statements made in this program. We also expect a high volume of comments on Twitter, using the hashtags #homeopathy, #cbcmarketplace, and #marketplace.
To help you find facts and information to bolster your comments, there are many articles and facts available on the NCH website. For information about the regulatory status of homeopathy in Canada, go to the Health Canada website or the APHC website .

One more thing... Please let us know about any positive or negative items you see or hear with regards to this episode of MarketPlace.
