Re: Flu preventative

Post by Rochelle Marsden »

Have just been asked by a patient about flu prevention homeopathically as she doesn't want the flu jab. She is in her late 60's is very fit and the GP is pushing her. Needless to say her constitutional Rx appears to be Arsenicum which she has had fairly recently. I suppose Influenzum 200 monthly could be a possibility.
Personally I don't tend to do this but prefer to treat if it happens so I wondered what others do.

I’ll be anxious to hear the approaches of others to this question. Thus far as a naturopath – my approach is to support the natural immune system and good hygiene (nutrition, hydration, supplements if necessary, probiotics, good sleep habits, washing, changing pillow cases, air filters, etc.). As a homeopath – my approach is to understand the character of the first symptoms produced and respond with the appropriate remedy (most people have their own ‘normal’ response – so you can usually prepare them with an ‘at the first sign’ remedy to keep handy) – and educate them to contact you quickly with the symptoms. So far, the few that have been sick wound up having ‘it’ for a matter of a few hours, and recovering comfortably and quickly.
I haven’t found anything that GPs will accept as a substitute for the jab – they are amazingly well brain washed that this is the one and only thing to do – even though they are sometimes the first to tell you they get the jab every year and they get the flu every year.
Is she looking for a homeopathic ‘prevention’ substitute for the flu jab for her own ‘peace of mind’ or to satisfy her GP?

I am pretty sure she is looking for her own peace of mind as in UK the jab is encouraged but not enforced for over 60's, anyone with respiratory and other chronic diseases. She maybe quite happy with me saying I will treat anything that appears.

Unless you know that you have an epidemic on your hands and can then collate similar sx for a prophylactic then all you can do is treat sx if and when they arrive, otherwise how can you match sx, what would you match them with - so I hope you don't give 'Influenzum' in any potency. Why do that?

One thing about the medical industry is their ignorance about sociology and social psychology. They
seem to have no clue about how they are socialized through fear of ostracism and shame. They have
not clue about cognitive dissonance, particularly their own. And they lack the curiosity of true skeptcs
to be open to new ideas. So despite seeing themselves as independent thinkers, actually most follow
like good little sheep and keep collecting their overrated fees while basking in their unearned entitlement.

Hi Joy,
So you would give a prophylactic when you know the G.E. of the flu?
As I said it is not something I have ever done however since I have been asked I thought I would see what others think.

Here's a nice article describing use of Vitamin D (as well as homeopathy) in flu prevention. Personally, from what I read, I'd use 5,000 IU rather than the 2,000 he suggests, but apparently 2,000 IU is effective.

Influenzinum got impressive reviews from JW's doc...

Depending on a person's general health and vit d levels, I would not hesitate using 10,000 iu or more
when sick. I take 10,000/day

10,000 IU *every* day? I do read of doing that for some circumstances, but at that point I'd think you'd definitely want to be getting your blood levels checked yearly, wouldn't you?

Actually, I do recommend testing for other people; for myself I trust my intuition and modulate my use.
Everything I have read indicates thats 2500 iu daily is the minimum for people. Considering lack of sun
exposure, stress, and other factors, 5000 daily is a pretty good number. People have been coming back
to me with levels at 20 or below when they should be up at 50. So 5000 daily is not a lot when you want to
up the blood levels. And if dealing with people who are elderly, very dark skinned, sickly (cancer, ms,
parkinson's, etc) 10,000 daily is not too much at all. Mayer Eisenstein recommends 10,000 daily for
flu prevention and as much as 50,000 daily if one does get skin.
There is a whole lot of scare tactics used, even in the holistic health field as people still fall prey to the
big pharma/fda propaganda.
