Muscus terrestris repens

Post by Joy Lucas »

Dear Dave,

The genus Lycopodium lies somewhere between the ferns and mosses - nearly
all of which require COOL, DAMP, SHADE to flourish - such as lowland
forests. There are, I think, over 65 species. Those that are native to
really hot places such as Texas and Mexico completely dry up because of the
heat and are sold as such as novelty type plants which will expand again
when wet is applied - hence the term resurrection plant.

Lycopodium is very common in the UK especially in the COLD northern moors,
where I happen to live and where I keep my hives. HO hum.

But then there is the firework aspect to Lycopodium - a flash of heat and
light which doesn't last very long!

Best wishes, Joy
