Infection/bacteria or toxin???? The SMON Fiasco
REMINDER of something thought to be contagious/infectious, later found to
SEE the comparison chart with polio
by something caused by toxicity and not infection as first thought
If government had declared this to be infectious then all research
would have stopped as it did with poliomyeltitis
"As the race to find a SMON virus was capturing all the attention,
other scientists were turning up some important clues to the
mysterious syndrome. One pharmacologist, Dr. H. Beppu, visited the
hard-hit Okayama province in 1969 to investigate the increasing
outbreak and independently discovered the same coincidence the
Mackawa group had years earlier - that SMON victims had taken certain
drugs to treat diarrhea. Unlike the Maekawa group, Beppu investigated
and found that Entero-vioform and Emaform - the diarrhea-fighting
drugs found present in an earlier SMON study - turned out to be
different brand names for a substance known as clioquinol,"

Yes, interesting and important.
And points up that looking for possible toxic exposures if *important*--clearly something that we need to be doing lots and lots more of today, rather than just developing and describing more and more drugs, for disorders that ought to be treated by detox, lifestyle, avoidance, etc.
But the fact that "Animal Q is not a cat" does not in any way, shape or form mean that "There is no such thing as a cat." It does not address the reasons why infection / contagion has been concluded in some of these cases. (Polio and others.)

Shannon - show me where it is has EVER been proven in animal or human studies that a so-called virus causes poliomyelitis.

and wikipedia is now the source for truth? hardly
you have got to be kidding me, Shannon - show me the research that found poliovirus and showed that it could cause polio
they refuse to let anything posted by other than mainstream, stay there.

I know, Sheri; I just found it a good write-up of my own prior understanding--mainstream, yes. As for more research, sorry, won't spend the time that way.
But again, you haven't answered my questions: Are the people you're quoting, saying that polio is not, was not, never has been contagious or caused by a virus, the also among the people you've quoted in the past, saying that no disease anywhere has *ever* been caused by any virus (or other microbe)?
Please do answer that question for me, will you?

No, Shannon - these are straight forward md's and scientists of the
