Blood clots in lungs

Bit of a time bind here: I'll only be on e-mail for a few hours before I have to leave for NYC. My mom, age 88, was just hospitalized with blood clots in her lungs after a few days of not feeling well and having problems with dyspnea when ascending stairs.
She's always been in pretty good health. Her only regular medication for the past couple of years has been Atenolol and hydrochlorothiazide for somewhat elevated BP. Hx of fragile capillaries, easy bruising. A tendency to falls (she's broken a few bones in her hands and wrist from catching herself). As she's gotten older, she's become increasingly sweet, but she's always been afraid of being a burden on others (didn't have much reliable support as a kid). Accordingly, she doesn't ask for help unless she's really in extremis.
I don't know how the clots developed -- possibly from a fall she had last week, though it was slight and she tells me there was hardly any bruising.
Has anyone had any experience dealing with clots that have, presumably, migrated to the lungs? Or with the heparin that they have her on now and, also presumably, will continue for some time. Because of her easy bruising and tendency to falls, I'm worried about the effects of heparin on her.

I would consider arnica as a first response considering the tendency to falls, the current fall last week and the capillaries are covered well with arnica. I have also done a search the ref works for these additional remedies

It is possible they have developed from a small piece of broken bone if that happened when she had a fall - was going to suggest Hamamelis.

Bothrops is a good remedy to consider if there are no indicating symptoms.
Other remedies useful for this condition are Am-c (if there is great weakness) Acetan and Vipera.

I want to thank everyone who contributed suggestions regarding my mother's medical emergency. It turns out pulmonary emboli were only part of the problem.
The hospital was all set to discharge her after two days (and in the midst of a blizzard), but she refused to inject herself twice daily in the stomach with Lovenox, a blood thinner. (What were they thinking?) That's when they discovered her heart rate was 39!
The final diagnosis was heart block. That made sense of her falls, which were due to syncope rather than vertigo, and the likely source of her blood clots and shortness of breath.
She is now at home with me and recuperating well on ascending low potencies of Bartya-carb. She also has a pacemaker, newly implanted.
I owe a huge debt to Dr. Roz, whose work on Fibonacci potencies guided me. Don't ask me how I arrived at Baryta-c. I'm doing an article on this experience that will reveal all; but at the moment I'm simply tapped out.
