Like all the snakes it is haemorrhagic so there are many sx focussing on the menses versus rest of cycle. It is a rx to think about for thyroid dysfunction when a goitre appears (throat again as with many snakes).

The mania stage could fit many serious viruses or fevers that cause hallucinations (meningitis, polio - maybe even a nbws polio vaccination) and paralysis. This could be for any age.
