chemistry health question

Post by Tanya Marquette »

For all you with chemistry background:

I have been researching a product that is labeled

safe by the EPA. However, it contains organosilanes

and I can't find any information on this product other

than its use in cleaning type products. My question

is whether this is considered a safe chemical to use

in a living environment. Obviously, I am not impressed

with what government agency says is safe for human health.

The only articles I have been able to find concern industry

development and use of these compounds.

Any help will be appreciated.

Dear Tanya
There a various types of this products. So you need to be exact.
Pls see https://www.xiameter.com/en/ExploreSili ... lanes.aspx
Even some stuff that is said to be non-reactive has shown itself to cause serious problems (asbestos is one).
So it is difficult to make a statement of high confidence on safety.

this is the msds sheet on the product in question:
http://www.getmicrobloc.com/pdf/msds/msds_encapz_me.pdf
it is used as a fabric and surface protectorant against
microbial infestions (mold). company sells it as 'green'
but i am needing to know more about it before using. i
have come across info stating it is carcinogenic in lungs
but the company msds sheet indicates it is not.
if you can shed some light on this, much appreciated.
i will try to read/understand the article you sent but i
am pretty illiterate on this topic.
