Peculiar (srp)/characteristic symptoms.. was Perhaps this flu - suppression of inflammation

Post by Luise Kunkle »

...and Hahnemann
Hi Irene, Ellen,

just riding my hobby horse or cetero censeo...

As far as peculiar symptoms by themselves go I just want to second (to
a degree - th part, that is outside this agreement is not relevant in
this connection) what Irene says below.

I just want to add something about Hahnemann's statements in this
respect.

He never said tho (almost) disregard that what is common to one
disease - he said to disregard the symptoms that are common to *almost
every disease* -- and he adds examples of what he means: which are
being tired, headache, feeling low.

Some homeopaths say instead to e.g. ignore swollen tonsils, sore
throat etc. in tonisllitis, since that is common to the *disease*.
This may be their opinion and their experience - this is one thing. It
is, however, NOT what H. said - or do you have sore throat, swollen
tonsils in *almost any* disease???

This is only true in cases where homeopaths include in their repping
the "name of the disease", in the above cited example:tonsillitis.
THEN hte remedies for those symptoms would appear in the repping twice
and thus upgrade them. Or, of course, where a homeopath reduces the
remdies to be considered to those given in "tonsillitis" - since in
those the common symptoms have alread been included in a
pre-selection.

In the case specifically discussed, i. e. Cushings: if there were a
rubric "Cushigs disease" the symptoms typical for it should probably
not be again included in the repping.

Regards

Luise

Agreed - thanks!
Why?
When I choose SYMPTOMS (not rubrics) for a case I choose them to be
Balanced - by which I mean the symptoms picture totally represents
the picture of the case ih a blanced way - not too much emphasis on
one thing that is a part of the case and not too little relatively,
on one thing that is most of the case etc. and from that BALANCED
picture, I choose a BALANCED representation in rubrics.
If it is off balance to only include "cushigns disease" once, then I
will add what's needed according to the symptoms picture to properly
represent it;
I want to see symptoms (and later rubrics) that show the mind
picture, that show the generals picture and that show peculiars and
illness specifics - in that order of priority.

Also - The chances that a rubric called Cushings disease has ALL
appropriate remedies that would help that disease in all people or
even most or even a tenth of people, are about zilch. So the symptoms
as opposed to disease name, would hold more weight, and be more
balanced to represent the illness.
I like a rubric with about 30 rems a least if I am going to rely on
it as the sole rubric for that aspect of the case, else I prefer to
be sure I cover the case properly. Not with swiss cheese rubrics as
keys :-)

Namaste,
Irene

Hi Irene,
Because doing so you use the same symptom twice - which may unduly
push remeides having that symtom into the foreground. Just a practical
issue. Whether it is relevant depends on the method one uses, I should
say.
This is exactly what I mean. Whover made up a rubric "cushings" had
already taken into account the characteristic symptoms of the disease,
on of which would be obesity. Using obesity again, the balnce gets
lost.
Well - I think I said it before - in a case like Cushings I probably
would not use the rubric at all but take the symptoms as they present
themselves -- then maybe have a lok at what remedies are in the rubric
Cushings.

Ah yes - That is what I would prefer as well.
That uses the symptoms as the primary information - best information
- but does not throw out the cushings rubric for what it might be worth.
