Doctatorship -- when medical and military thinking MERGE...

Post by Dana Ullman, MPH »

Dear Friends,

My newest article provides an analysis of how much "military thinking"
and "medical thinking" has become one and the same! This article just
published in ODE MAGAZINE (this increasingly popular award-winning magazine
is a bit like THE UTNE READER in that it maintains a very
positive/altruistic/green focus towards various local and world issues).

It is quite remarkable how much military thinking has "invaded" our
medical thinking (and visa versa), and it is sad how problematic, how
questionably effective, and how expensive they both are. Judge for yourself
by clicking to:

http://www.odemagazine.com/doc/63/military-medicine/

Ultimately, we need to change the way we think about "combating" disease
and "waging war" to create peace. Although some other writers have compared
medical and military thinking, I think that I have extended this metaphor
further...and in ways that show how much the modern medical paradigm creates
its own dis-easing processes...

sorry for another aborted post. see the completion below:

very cleverly done dana
i have been noting that the only philosophical underpining of our culture
is 'control and conquer.' as goes the economic institution, goes all other
social institutions. the medical model is no different. thus, a real understanding of any of our social institutions informs us of all others in
intent and structure. and so the whole debate on health care reform has been reduced to how to get more people to buy into the system so more
WMD can be promoted. more record keeping, more competition for controlling the dissemination of drugs and no discussion of any alternative
system that in fact will provide better health care at lower costs!

"Doctatorship" - great term and quite appropriate...can I use that term in my upcoming Naturopathy discussion this weekend? All are welcome if you're in the area. I am co-sponsoring a free Holistic Health Day in Pellston,Michigan and I'm speaking on Naturopathy and the Mind/Body Interface. For more info you can search Holistic Health Day on Yahoo's "Upcoming" site or my website www.indiahealthtoday.com One of the all-important topics I will be touching on is of course - Homeopathy.

Also - any suggestions on good quality distance-learning Homeopathy programs? I have a basic Homeopathy course under my belt but wish to further my education. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I am interested in the American Medical College of Homeopathy but they do not offer financial aid of any sort.
