iodine test- urgent

Can anyone remember the iodine test for a thyroid/goitre to see if the person needs iodine. something about painting iodine on the forearm/neck to see how long the yellow colour takes to go.

Yes Rochelle,

You have to get regular store-bought iodine solution or Lugol’s iodine solution. After showering you paint on a quarter-size (in the UK it will be a 2 pound coin size) stain on your belly and really saturate it well with the iodine. Do not shower again for 24 hours.

Check it every few hours. Ideally, the stain should be visible after 24 hours, which means you are not lacking iodine. Deficiencies can run as high as the total vanishing of the stain in 1-3 hours! That’s why you want to check periodically to get an idea just how deficient you are.

Continued application to the skin (different spot every day) with a good quality iodine such as Lugol’s will correct the deficiency over time. So will oral supplementation either through a few drops of Lugol’s per day, or by consuming sea weeds such as kelp.

Yes. just a coin sized circle on a "soft" part like the inner arm. Don't wash the part for 24 hours. Use the iodine bought in the pharma for antisceptic. Presumeably the faster it's absorbed, the more the deficiency. 18-24 is "normal".

I don't know, however it any of the above is truly true or practitioners "old wives tale".

The protocol I was taught was to use LUCOSES IODINE (bought from a lab) in the following way:
Start with 1 drop a day in water, and increase by 1 drop for 7 days (ie 7 drops by the end of 7 days). Then decrease 1 drop a day down to 2 drops. You can stop there. Alternatively one could continue 2 drops a day for another week.

Care has to be taken not to overdose, since that can cause imbalances - hypothyroid more likely than hyperthyroid.

Personally I prefer Iodium 2x or 3x for such cases that I feel may need material doses.

Thanks to all who replied to my question. I have now saved the information onto my computer where I thought I had it from the last patient I did this with a few years ago. If I remember rightly this patient started to apply it daily to her goitre (no I didn't advise this!!) and ended up with a terrible rash where the skin had burnt!!! Her goitre went away with Lapis A 6 daily if I remember rightly.

It would mean you have enough iodine in your body and possibly to stop eating things with contain a lot of iodine I would imagine.

only took it to mean a strong system. But you're right, it could have
other implications.
