BP and cholesterol meds

Does anyone out there know - could blood pressure and cholesterol medications taken late afternoon/early evening cause sleep disturbances? I'll be getting the exact names of the meds on Wednesday.

Also the px was told by his doc to take them at that time because they would be more effective - any knowledge about this?

Vera,
Cholesterol meds in particular cause a drastic deficiency in
nutrients associated with brain function. So not only do they cause
liver problems - but they also cause severe 'disfunction' issues -
usually treated by more medications. I don't have my reference book
with me - but definately check into the nutrients depleted by the
cholesterol medication.

Hi Vera,

Statins are generally recommended to be taken at bedtime but I bet they can disturb sleep in some folks. BP meds are generally two to three times a day and mostly in the morning to control things while you up and active.
If you get the names I can look in A PDR for side effects on each for you.

Statins (for high cholesterol) are more effective when taken in the evening after the last meal of the day. The action on the liver is more pronounced. Not usually associated with sleep disturbance but they do have side effects associated with muscle pain and weakness. This could be at a sub-clinical level and cause enough discomfort that sleep is disturbed. If patient is having sleep disturbances, perhaps the psycological issues associated with the causation of the high BP could be part of the picture. But yes, the statins could be causing enough discomfort to disturb sleep.

the whole idea is defective - the whole idea of cholesterol being the
problem is defective
and the drugs are very very toxic and certainly not necessary

Thanks for all responses - makes me feel my hunch may have some substance. I'll be getting the names of the drugs on Wednesday and will check for side-effects then.

I find it's really difficult when conventional docs have prescribed meds that are clearly problematic for the patient. In some cases I've tried opening up a direct channel of communication with the prescribing doc, or having the px present the issue, but the docs are rarely responsive, especially in cases of "classic" long term meds like BP and Cholesterol, and not often willing to monitor. I don't have the mandate to take a patient off a conventional drug and risk being sued if I do so.

In addition, the stress a patient can experience when his homeopath is saying one thing and his conventional doc is saying another can also harm his health and result in confused reactions to remedies that can muddy the case. Not to mention his increase in BP!

Seems that integrative practice is a good way to go, working alongside an MD (damage control?).

Well, not sure about that. Kind of hard to integrate allopathy - working against symptoms and homeopathy - working with symptoms.
