Emerald
Shannon,
I just had a great Emerald case.I spent quite a bit of time researching the gemstone remedies a year or so ago for a difficult, but wonderful case. I ended up giving the patient amethyst at that time (this way probably 1 1/2 years ago). At that time she was in extreme distress and the amethyst worked wonders in helping her feel less like she was literally falling apart and had no idea of how to move forward. She's in better shape now than she was at that time, but still under inordinate stress, physically as well as emotionally and i felt like her adrenal response was completely out of whack -- not unusual in patients with long-standing thyroid disorders. The Emerald proving notes I have refer to "an overtaxed nervous system" and the exhaustion and debility that results. My notes also indicate that the remedy supports the action of heart medicines such as arsenicum, carbo-veg, snake remedies, and phos -- this patient has been needing quite a bit of arsenicum in a low potency to deal with acute flare-ups of her chronic situation. It is useful as a post-traumatic stress remedy and those who have "become diminished through emotional distress" -- another kind of PTSD. In researching the gemstones in general I found that there are, as with most remedy families, a number of themes that come up in all these remedies: Consumed by one's emotional state; Issues of self-worth, particularly around money, dignity, and privelege; a polarity between invicibilty and strength on the one hand, and the extreme weakness that follows; issues of existential spirituality -- a troubled soul; a dark void emotionally; and an affinity with the endocrine system. I know all that's pretty vague, but hope it will help a bit. The only physical symptoms I have listed are headaches at night, < left side.

Thanks, Beth!
Did you use these as regular potentized remedies, or gem essences (I
haven't yet read about those)? If the former, did you choose potency
and repetition "in the usual way"?
Can you recommend information source for me?
Thanks again!

Hi Shannon,
Not Beth here, but I've found gem remedies are available from Helios in UK and Similimum in New Zealand. The Gem remedies that Peter Tumminello has prepared and proved are usually made by immersion - the gem is placed in an unmarked glass bowl of distilled water which is then covered with glass- this is left exposed to the sun and the moon for 24 hours. The water is then mixed 50/50 with 90% alcohol to make the mother tincture - potencies are made from this tincture in the usual manner. Similimum carries his range - I think Helios also but am not 100% sure on that.

Re: Emerald
Thanks Gail,
More puzzlement... Murphy and Palmer refer to a / the remedy made of
emerald *triturate*. I wonder whether anyone has compared effects of
the triturated version with the water extracted version? It stands to
reason they might not be the same, but my RefWks program doesn't
contain any information about Tumminello's version.
But ah, that explains something! Helios carries both "Emerald
Immersion (Gem Essence)" and also "Emerald", in similar (not identical)
potency ranges. So I guess I could buy both and compare.
?

Re: Emerald
What you should buy is Peter Tuminello's book, then compare the provings.
For example you can compare Diamond Immersion (Peter's) and Adamas (Jeremy Sherr's); very similar, but Peter's proving encompasses almost everything Jeremy found and then a lot more.
Over the last 2 years, I have used Peter's gem remedies many times, especially in cases where I got stuck and I can vouch they are very deep acting, going to the core of the patients and of the problems.
It is really worth reading.
To me, with my limited personal experience, they appear to be as deep, if not more, than the Bowel Nosodes are............which I do not use enough anyway..........

Re: Emerald
Thanks, I'll do that.
Do you by any chance have any comparison between the triturated versus
immersion versions? (Or have you always used the immersions?)

Re: Emerald
Actually, the few times Adamas came up, I ended up reading both MMs and realising that the immersion remedy covered the mentals/emotionals a lot better, so ended up prescribing the immersion one.
BTW, I also compared Emerald from Tuminello and the meditation proving of Colin Griffiths, the resemblances are absolutely amazing; it has convinced me that meditation provings are valid, at least on the non physical symptoms....and yet some physical provings are exactly the same too, but I still have to compare more remedies to be fully convinced.

Re: Emerald
Hi again Shannon
For Mat Med on many of the Meditative Provings and including gems, I'd
recommend Colin Griffith's book "The New Materia Medica" ~ very
comprehensive & informativeISBN 978-1-905857-27-2.
Kind regards
Sue

I know the Simillimum pharmacy in Wellington has it: orders@arnica.co.nz
Also try the Similibooks shop in Australia, I do not have their website handy, again on a backup laptop after yet another crash, but it should be easy to Google...
