Re: Swine Fever Profiteering

Post by the_homeopath »

Over 25 years as a homeopath I have never posted on minutus before but feel this is so important that you should all be notified.

I have just finished a phone call with Ainsworths. They have the nosode of the Swine Influenza.

Before you get excited you should know that they are refusing to release it in medicating potency! It is only going to be available in pills or liquid potency. This effectively means that Ainsworths is cornering the market in a potential pandemic situation and preventing other homeopaths making up a life saving remedy.

I don't know about you, but I find such shameless profiteering disgusting and I refused to deal with them on that basis. Hopefully some more scrupulous pharmacy will be able to obtain the nosode for the good of all before too long.

What are your feelings?

My recent experience with them so pleasing, I'm going to order all remedies from them in the future. Even with the airmail and exchange rate, it was only slightly more expensive than USA prices maybe less since you can order various quantities. And what selection and variety! I prefer those little glass vials vs. Boiron's plastic tubes though dispensing is tricky. Plus, the remedy I needed, unapproved in USA, Boiron USA could have obtained from Boiron France, but they refused to. My contact said they are concerned about maintaining their USA image, FDA status, etc. Boiron is now a pseudo-pharma co.

But they are nearly all at it - I would say so many sell remedies that haven't even been proved (swine fever included?) and that is really bad in my opinion. They will make up almost any substance for you and potentise it and sell it to the public. And if this so called SF substance has not been proved then you cannot ever give it the time of day let alone a life saving rx. Very disappointing. Joy

this is insane.

You are buying into the panic and that is when you are at risk for profiteering.
Stop, take a breath, and remember the vested interests in your panic

Dear Joy
Whilst I understand that the 'gold standard' for homeopathy is that all remedies are proved, sometimes you just can't wait!
My cat was poisoned by Frontline Spot On - went into a cold huddle, hardly breathing, not reacting to anything and looked as if he was on the way out. I was so concerned that I decided he needed detoxing from what I had used on him. I phoned Helios and obtained Frontline in 30C potency. Two doses later my cat had completely recovered and was back to normal.
If I had waited to find something which had been proved, I don't think I would have had a cat! Tautopathy sometimes is a very useful addition to our homeopathic repertoire, and does not need proving, in my opinion.

It must be nice to live in collection distance of a homeopathic pharmacy, otherwise, of course, there would be time to take the case and prescribe a homeopathic rx. If a certain amount of time had passed it is very hard to say that the cat didn't survive through its own healing ability.

No, I don't think tautopathy is a useful adjunct to homeopathy, we don't need it. Joy

Dear fellow appreciators of homeopathy...

Flu will or will not be effective in preventing it are other legal and
ethical issues about dispensing it, as James desires, from a "medicating
potency."

purchase a medicating potency of the "Swine Flu" remedy from Ainsworth.
What will this remedy cost him? Probably around $15-$20 (10-13
pounds)...and then, he wants to be able to use this medicine to medicate
pellets for 10 or 20 or 100 or 200 patients? Personally, I would want ALL
of these people to be support homeopathic pharmacies...and local homeopaths.
will WANT our drug manufacturers to be successful...when they will actually
make reasonable profits so that they can use them to fund research and fund
educational programs.

company." They probably devote more money to homeopathic research than any
other company, and they support homeopathic organizations and various
educational programs. I certainly don't see significant financial support
for homeopathic research OR even for homeopathic organizations coming from
homeopaths.

potency" to create separate bottles are committing a "federal felony" for
"manufacturing drugs without a drug manufacturing license." Doing so
creates potential problems for you...but even more important are the ethical
problems of not supporting homeopathic pharmacies.

for ways to support homeopathic manufacturers, organizations, and
eduacational efforts rather than to condemn "profit-making." Because there
are NO (!) homeopathic manufacturers that are FLUSH with profit, condemning
the little profit that they make is a tad strange and is ultimately
counter-productive.

MICHAEL QUINN, RPh, the founder of Hahnemann Labs. Hahnemann Labs'
medicines are much more expensive than other homeopathic pharmacies in the
US, and yet, I and many of the best homeopaths in the US buy a lot of
medicines from them because we want to support their efforts to create
quality medicines and to support their efforts to grow homeopathy. Let's
STOP always looking for the LOWEST prices for everything, and let's support
those companies and organizations that help to grow homeopathy...

Are you now the Susie Orman of homeopathy? Strange you should dictate to anyone during an increasing recession/depression how and where to spend their money. We already know LOWEST prices are not at your website. Amazon and Minimum.com much better and Greg of Minimum.com doesn't feign promoting the cause of homeopathy on here or other homeopathic websites while actually trying to increase their business. Yes, let's support companies that GROW homeopathy.

Dana in 4/16/09 message on Florida:

On Saturday April 18th, 10am to 1pm. I'm speaking on "The True Wisdom of Symptoms and Disease: Homeopathic Thinking, Research, and Practice. The SHORE CLUB, 1901 N. Ocean Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. $25.00

The Shore Club condo office was upset and wanted to file a police report not because your talk was not on their schedule but that someone was charging $$$ for it and didn't pay the condo for facility usage. Unless you're a condo owner, you don't get free usage of their facilities.

So, where's the $$$ you made on that event? Florida is off season, not expensive to stay here unless you have wealthy friends who took you in.
Dana in 1/08/09 messaage on Major conference:

I am not being paid to speak, nor are they covering my
transportation or my lodging, though they have given me TWO additional
tickets to this conference. I am planning to sell the extra tickets for
$250.00 each (they are worth $395 each)...and it really looks like it is
going to be a great event. My point here is that if you (or anyone you
know) wants to attend and who wants a discounted ticket, please have them
contact me as soon as possible...

The sale of these tickets will help provide some reimbursement for
my expenses.

You mean those expenses that can be used legally as deductible business expenses on your tax return?

If so used, will you claim the full amount of your expenses (hotel, airfare, food, business entertainment, networking) or the net amount after hawking those tickets?

Was your last summer's Italy vacation expensed as a 2008 business expense since you gave an interview on H'pathy.com on the way home?

It would be a USA Federal IRS violation, punishable by fines and/or imprisonment to fudge on taxes if the IRS determines so through audit.

Hopefully you have a shrewd CPA unless you Turbo Tax your own like Secy of Treasury Geithner.

I look forward to the day that those of us involved in homeopathy
will WANT our drug manufacturers to be successful...when they will actually
make reasonable profits so that they can use them to fund research and fund
educational programs.

That's the pharmaceutical drug model that also adds to their bottom line.

I find it strange that Susan refers to Boiron as a "pseudo-pharma
company." They probably devote more money to homeopathic research than any
other company, and they support homeopathic organizations and various
educational programs. I certainly don't see significant financial support
for homeopathic research OR even for homeopathic organizations coming from
homeopaths

Maybe in USA FDA laws, it's illegal for Boiron, a French company, to fly over a homeopathic remedy not in HPUS but not made from controlled substances, yet Helios UK sent it no problem. Ever try to call Boiron USA? No one anwers a phone, no voicemail. This is a company concerned about patients?

Boiron is a company valued at 436 million Euros. They are diversified into product lines other than homeopathy. How much of that money goes into homeopathic research, education vs. increasing their own bottom line? Let's see...

http://www.reuters.com/finance/stocks/o ... ol=BOIR.PA

"Boiron SA is a France-based pharmaceutical company engaged in the provision of homeopathic medicines. The Company develops, manufactures and markets single homeopathic medicines and proprietary drugs. It also produces medicines based on trace elements, phytotherapy remedies, food supplements, as well as health and beauty care products. In addition, the Company owns a research center, Institut Boiron, which works for the development of homeopathy within the world of medicine. Boiron SA operates in Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia, Romania, Poland, Hungary, the United States, Canada and Brazil, among others."

Look at their financial info, they made $149,000 per employee net revenue

http://www.reuters.com/finance/stocks/r ... l=BOIRF.PK

Boiron is spending LESS on research/development than in the past. From 9.6M Euros in 2007 to 6.6M Euros 2008 yet their Total Revenue increased over 22M Euros. Do you really think they are spending mostly on homeopathic research, new remedy provings, etc? Or is that research/development to increase the sales of their products including non-homeopathic?

Here's their income statement, look at lines Research & Development, Total Revenue:

http://www.reuters.com/finance/stocks/i ... l=BOIRF.PK

Actually, not probably, Boiron is a BIG PHARMA company. Sorry to inform you.

As a business owner, certainly you can read the Financials and see for yourself. ;)

From now on, I'll support Helios UK.

Susan
