Asymptomatic hypothyroid
Asymptomatic hypothyroid
Have just had a case in where the presenting complaint was an asymptomatic
low thyroid as found from blood tests.
The low thyroid is a side effect from a drug called Amiodorone which I
only found
when I looked it up in my BNF(Doctor's manual of drugs and interactions,
dosages, side effects etc)!!!!! The very healthy 76 yr old, who doesn't even
need glasses, no arthritis, (amazing) had a mitral valve replacement 5 years
ago due to a leaky valve , a condition was told then she has had for years.
After that she was put on Amiodorone. 18 months ago her regular blood tests
showed hypothyroid and she has been on thyroxine 75mg a day ever since. She
has absolutely no symptoms and anyway the thyroxine is not making any
difference. She also has to take Warfarin daily (wouldn't herbal Gingko be
a substitute????) and every other day a Frumic (diuretic) although there is
no evidence of oedema.
Basically I have taken a case history but not prescribed as there is nothing
to prescribe on. When she sees the consultant in May she will ask if she
must continue to take these drugs. If so I told her to return and I will get
the Amiodorone made up in potency to see if it will stop the side effect of
the hypothyroid. She left happy that she could talk about her worries and it
has cleared her mind about what to do.
Would anyone else have handled this any differently?
Regards,
Rochelle

Re: Asymptomatic hypothyroid
Hi Rochelle, I reckon I know a thing or two about valvular disease - my
little boy has incompetant valves and there is great pressure to put him on
horrendous allopathic drugs. Easily resisted so far but ever worse is the
prospect of an artificial valve - some are made from animals (these are the
less problematic ones) and others are synthetic and the problems arising
from them require the recipient to endure warfarin + other drugs for the
rest of their lives. Endocarditis is a constant threat. I think it is better
to have valvular disease!!! I guess your client has to be completely aware
of the risks coming off these drugs and fully committed to homeopathy to
deal with any up and coming problems she might have. The allopaths will
insist she stays on the drugs I will bet!!! The drug you mention is an
antiarrythmic and the allopaths insist no other can be used to deal with the
flutter and fibrillation. It is important here to have a stethoscope and
know what to listen to in the heart and this should be done each visit. Have
no idea what the potentising of Amiodarone will do. I actually think the
warfarin is a problem here as well, in as much as it is probably the most
needed because of the valve replacement. Try to find out what kind of valve
she has. I would also want to know the extent of the thyroid problem. I can
only say be extremely cautious but confident about encouraging her to come
off the drugs. Make sure back up help can be offered. Try to establish her
simillimum and give it to boost her immune system against potential
infections etc. Good luck, hope she continues to choose Homeopathy. Best
wishes, Joy

Re: Asymptomatic hypothyroid
Thanks Joy for your very informative post.
Basically she can't see the point of taking the Thyroxine if it is not
making any impression on the thyroid tests she has. She has no idea anything
about T3 or T4 test results but the way I look at it is that she has no
symptoms so how can I treat her??? Also how can homeopathy reduce the
effect of the drugs if this is the causation and she has to stay on them.
She is extremely fit and well at the moment so I really don't see how I
should interfere with this. The PC was the thyroid condition and I have
explained where this comes from. she will now have to return to her
specialist to decide what to do. As for a constitutional I haven't a clue as
there was nothing much there .On generalities Lycopodium, (she doesn't
appear to be Lyco) Phos (sat with her arms closed) came out top. The only
SRP she has is that garlic makes her vomit (Phos, Lyco and Sabad) craves
tomatoes and did when she was pregnant (Ferr) dreams of driving in reverse
and the brakes don't work (I;ve come across this dream before) and swimming
strongly (she can't swim).Desires hot food and drinks (Lyco). Desires dry
food - no gravy etc. She is not thirsty and is a tidy person.
She has a wart on right side of her forehead next to a mole with a black
spot in the middle. She wants to have the wart cut off - the doctor calls
it an inverted wart but I can't think why - because she doesn't like it.
This came up about 12 months ago. I hope I have persuaded her that if it
ain't broke don't fix it and that she may have bleeding problems because of
the warfarin. Have given her some Thuja to use topically but don;t hold much
hope!!
Anyway it is really over to her to return if she feels she wishes to after
seeing the specialist in May.

Re: Asymptomatic hypothyroid
I have good clinical results with respiratory pts. who are using prednisone and albuterol long term with the accompanying adverse affects, particularly that of prednisone, as in fluid retention, by the constructing of a homaccord of albuterol and administering it via nebuliser. Perhaps some similar approach might be considered for your Pt. re: the drugs you they are using?

I believe it is a trademark of Heel (www.heel.ca)
-and is a fancy name for a combination of several potentized medicinal
substances.
Not homeopathy, as most of us know it.
For instance:
Heel Nux vomica-Homaccord
Composition:
100 ml contains: Nux vomica D3, Nux vomica D10, Nux vomica D15, Nux vomica
D30, Nux vomica D200, Nux vomica D1000, Bryonia alba D3, Bryonia alba D6,
Bryonia alba D10, Bryonia alba D15, Bryonia alba D30, Bryonia alba D200,
Bryonia alba D1000, 0.2 ml each; Colocynthis D3, Colocynthis D10,
Colocynthis D30, Colocynthis D200, Lycopodium clavatum D3, Lycopodium
clavatum D10, Lycopodium clavatum D30, Lycopodium clavatum D200, Lycopodium
clavatum D1000, 0.3 ml each. Contains 35 vol.-% alcohol.
Aphorism 273 (Organon, 6th ed.)
In no case is it necessary to employ more than a *single simple* medicinal
substance at one time with a patient. *For this reason alone, it it
inadmissible to do so.* It is inconceivable that there could be the
slightest doubt about whether it is more in accordance with nature and more
reasonable to prescribe only a *single, simple,* well-known medicinal
substance at one time in a diseas or a mixture of several different ones. In
homeopathy - the only true and simple, the only natural medical art- it is
absolutely prohibited to administer to the patient, *at one time,* two
different medicinal substance.

Re: Asymptomatic hypothyroid
A homaccord is a combination of two or more single remedies in a polycord of 12,30,200X.
I recognise and appreciate the thesis advanced regarding this approach to the use of remedies. It finds assertion in what has come to be called homotoxicology. Its findings prove to be efficous and is suggestive of another approach to the peeling of the onion.
BHI-Heel is a german company located in N.M.

The RECKEWEG products have much the same role in the UK.
