Memory of water- some experiments

Post by Venkat »

Recently Simon had posted in homeolist in his 'homeopathy in the news' about Benveniste and his experiments on the memory of water. He had given a link for this.
Could water really have a memory?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7505286.stm

Sometime back, I saw a blog where a similar conclusion was arrived at but through a totally different means. The researcher was Masuru Emoto of Japan. This experiment, if proved in public, would literally mean water can remember anything from a 'scold' to a 'praise'. There are water based kriyas of Hindus called Sandhya Vandanam where the water is sprinkled after chanting the Gayatri Mantra. Many times small quantities of water are partaken after chanting many names of God etc. This would mean the effect of a mantra (sound) can be transmitted to self and to his surroundings.
Check out this blog.

Dear Venkat
When the Nature team visited Jacque Beneviste' labs, James Randi labelled the tubes and I think he did some switching so the results which had been verified at the time by others and since became non-conclusive.
A few years back Horizon 'repeated' (but did not keep to the protocols) of a similar experiment carried out by Prof Ince at Belfast.
Here they showed that half of the Histamine solutions and Control (WATER) samples that had both been 'diluted and succussed' reacted with basophiles.
They then also declared that there was no 'homeopathic effected - but failed to explain how it was that water had reacted. If water was to react of course, I believe on sipping some water we would go in a rapid immune reaction and probably die from the swelling!
So I reckon some one switched the samples again!

well that being the case, it seems the experiment needs to be redone
with much higher sense of security and change of custody on the sample
bottles!!

Hi Soroush,
It would be much better to admit that we do not know why it happened
that way;-)

No - The whole thing stinks and they will not release the raw data!
They had 40 samples it was split and sent to two labs.
Lab one gave 11 controls and 9 solutions as reactive
and 9 controls and 11 solutions as un-reactive
Lab two gave 11 controls and 9 solutions as un reactive and
and 9 controls and 11 solutions as reactive.
Coincidence is two high - there is no error controls which should have remained 100% UNREACTIVE were found in almost 50% of the cases to be reactive.
No one said OH THIS UNUSUAL or UNEXPECTED - let us check again.
James Randi was up for losing is $1M - I wonder why he did not!

Well, Soroush - I have a suggestion. But first a question:

Did Beneviste describe his experiment by which he came to his results
in a way that other scientist can reproduce it?

Remember also that James Randi is a sleight of hand expert!! He was in the testing facility wandering around and not always on camera or supervised – if you were wagering a million of your own dollars would you not make sure you didn’t lose it!! Funny also that at the end of the doco he said himself that he actually expected that one day Homeopathy was likely to be vindicated!!

our side needs to get more control over this type of experimenting
we need to get it together, as they say
