Re: Dr. Ramakri$$$hnan - Diabetes Healer or Banker?
Have you or anyone you know been treated by Dr. Ramakrishnan? I'd like to hear feedback on his methods, successes and failures.
He is billed as "one of the most respected homeopathic physicians in the U.S. He is known for his ability to treat successfully people with some of the most serious pathology known." I don't know how true this is since he lives in India and only visits here 2-3 times per year.
I went to see Dr. Ramakrishnan for treatment, primarily for diabetes, when he visited the USA. I only saw him for 25 minutes and was given a scrip for a new constitutional remedy and a remedy for diabetes. He prescribes strictly 4th ed Organon since instructions were to take the constitutional remedy w pills/x times per day once every y weeks for z months. The cost for the visit was $750. The diabetes remedy was prescribed x times/daily for z months. It took awhile to adapt taking a high C potency constitutional remedy in rote fashion but I survived suffering though some expected aggravations while making some of my own 5th edition Organon adjustments (aka dissolve & stir) later as time went on.
After z months, I made good overall progress so contacted him for a followup phone/email. A few minutes by phone and then an email followup (he says his computer crashed losing my info, so I had to provide my case over again), I was sent a new scrip, now for a cell salt remedy taken x times/day, daily for z months and repeating again the diabetes remedy for z months. I was told no more constitutional as too dynamic, now physical plane. This cost $250. After starting the new remedy, I did not feel well right away and after a few weeks, regressed, so contacted him. Barely acknowledging any feedback except to say stay on new cell salt remedy and then make another appointment for his next USA visit, this will cost $350 to be deposited in advance to his checking account.
Is Dr. Ramakrishnan worthy to command these exorbitant prices? He charges per prescription, not time, and once dispensed, there is little room for feedback during the time you are told to take the remedy(ies). It also appears he works on a z month schedule. Take the remedy for z months, then make a new appointment. A request for a remedy suggestion vs. surgery for an unrelated acute situation was ignored.
Is this the way Indian homeopaths operate? Is this quasi-allopathic-classical prescribing, taking a remedy repeatedly for a finite time at the same potency? I know many work clinic-style, seeing 100's of patients a week but surely no one in India is paying $750 + $250 + $350 +.... each time they followup or a clinic visit yet alone phone or email. Maybe he feels we're all rich Americans.
I'm trying to determine the value of what may be his vast allopathic-style impersonal clinical experience which may allow him to better understand homeopathic principles, albeit 4th ed. Organon, and use remedies the way many Western style homeopaths can not. The constitutional remedy he prescribed was tried once years before with severe aggravations. He said his unique way of prescribing this polychrest remedy would alleviate that, which it did. So obviously he knows a bit about remedies. Then again, having taken this polychrest before, maybe my vital force reacted better on repetition.
As for any "cure" for diabetes, Dr. Ramakrishnan has told me maybe after two years of treatment. At least he's not promising any miracles nor wasting time on New Age psychological approaches to classical homeopathy for chronic genetic medical conditions. Yet, I now wonder if this is to keep you on the hook for over $1200/year or might his methods really lead to a cure.
He published a $50 CD set on diabetes treatment where he uses the following remedies, Natrum Sulph, Calc. Carb., Lycopodium, Sulphur, Uranium Nitricum, Argentum Nitricum, Apis, Glonoine, Calc. Phos., Ferrum Met., Cantharis, Terebinthin, Helleborus, Glycerine, Berberis Vulg., Kali Phos., Vesicarea, Eel's Serum, Plumbum Met., Abroma Augusta, Vanadium, Selenium, Acid Phos, Acid Nit., Zincum Met., Sacale Cor., Aurum Met., Veratrum Vir., Acid Fluor., Ars. Iod., Lachesis, Baryta Carb., Baryta Mur., Gymnema Sylvester, Syzigium Jambolanum, Ars. Bromide, Tylophora Indica.
Am I just overpaying for what may turn out to be his already established diabetes protocol where I'll be cycled through these remedies? I can already strike three remedies off this list.

Thank you for your info on your experience with Dr. Ramkrishnan - very interesting. I do agree that many Homeopathist charge way to much - the remedies are so inexpensive - is there really a need to charge those sums. I wonder - I most of the time do not charge a thing because my clients come from the poorest section of town and do not have insurance or money. And they need help.

Re: Dr. Ramakri$$$hnan - Diabetes Healer or Banker?
it seems that fame throughout the world claims high fees!
in nyc rates for intakes are in $300-400 range. but if you see
a big name it is much more. jeremy scherr charges $700 in nyc
for an intake and last heard about $250 for follow ups. his nyc
visits are filled with patients. i can't image him charging that
in england where he lived for many years. i went through his
clinical workshop so got to see him at greatly reduced rates.
farouk masters saw my grand daughter a couple of yrs ago in
a clinic workshop class. he gave a remedy, charged $200 and
then left with no follow up contacts planned. the analysis of
her case seemed flawless, he prescribed a remedy which did
absolutely nothing and that was the end of it.
i was disappointed needless to say.
perhaps paying $1200/yr is not so bad if the protocol works.

Re: Dr. Ramakri$$$hnan - Diabetes Healer or Banker?
Jeremy Scherr was also considered but I felt seeing someone who claims
being a diabetes expert is needed now. Maybe I should buy Dr.
Ramakrishnan's $50 CD set on diabetes and DIY. The money is worth it
if you know you'll be cured over time. I guess now being put on a fixed
protocol schedule every few months to spend $250/$350 is what's the
issue.
As for the remedy that didn't work for your granddaughter, did she only
take it once? Don't give up on it so fast. My first constitutional
remedy did nothing until I took it many times at increasing potency.
Then for years it helped me. It still does but didn't prevent inherited
diabetes from emerging. It works well on my other miasm. My current
constitutional remedy also did nothing but aggravate until I went from
4th ed Organon dry dose to 5th ed wet dose. Then it worked
remarkably. I think it takes awhile for some vital forces to react to
the remedy. I've taken a 200C, 12x/day, every two weeks.

since she did not live with me, but my daughter who is 100 miles from me. she wasn't

Yes many need help
But how do you pay your rent, utilities, feed yourself and your family and pay for your office?
Yes, remedies are inexpensive but it takes many hours to figure out which one is the simillimum in many cases.

i think this is a good question. i have never seen a guarantee given.
but it raises a question about ethics and patient comfort. what if practitioners
gave a promise to redo the remedy one or two more tries before recharging
if their initial intake cost is that high?

Re: Dr. Ramakri$$$hnan - Diabetes Healer or Banker?
When one becomes "well-known", one of the only ways of stemming the demand for services is to charge higher fees - and I don't think the practitioner should be condemned for this as it is a market driven thing and may be the only thing that saves ones sanity.
Just imagine if you are altruistic enough to work in an impoverished area where you charge nominal fees that the population can afford. If you are any good at homeoapthy, you will soon be inundated. What do you do? You try and bring in other practitioners to help you. Sometimes none are availble or they may not, for whatever reason, be able to give the results you do - people do not want to see them. As a result, you are still in the situation of turning away large numbers of people, some of whom are in a desperate situation and desperately need homeopathic attention - this is heartbreaking and hugely stressful, especially if they are pleading with you to help them.
What do you do? You put up your fees to try and use this as some sort of filter and then keep an eye out for those serious cases who cannot afford to pay the large fees and still help them. This is the reality of things - either in impoverished or affluent areas, and it is often the only way demand can be managed. So, do not think harshly about practitioners who HAVE TO charge large fees - people do not have to pay them.
It is important to be aware though, that if a practitioner becomes a "guru", enters the lecture circuit and travels around the world teaching, they can no longer maintain consistent clinic services. To see a practitioner who is at this level may not lead to the best of treatment, especially in followup management - and those who work consistently with homeopathy know that good case management is ALL in the followup.
If I was seeking good treatment, I would go to a seasoned practitioner (or even a beginner who is committed to ongoing study that does not involve looking for shortcuts or resorting to protocols in an effort to "do" homeoapathy more easily - there is no easy way) as this is where you will ultimately get the best treatment and management. Do be aware that guru status can often develop for all the wrong reasons and does not necessarily mean good treatment. Often the opposite can be true.
Kind regards,
Fran Sheffield

Re: Dr. Ramakri$$$hnan - Diabetes Healer or Banker?
i think this is a good question. i have never seen a guarantee given.
but it raises a question about ethics and patient comfort. what if practitioners
gave a promise to redo the remedy one or two more tries before recharging
if their initial intake cost is that high?
Wow, I think this is best idea I've ever heard for resolving this issue. Why should the patient be forced to pay extra for the homeopath's lack of skill in prescribing?
