What are we trying to cure?was Arsenic Proving??

Post by Luise Kunkle »

Hi John,
But are we not trying to do just that when we prescribe on the
patient's totality of signs and symptoms of illness? Even more so
if we prescribe on the totality prsent and past? Even more so if
we prescribe for the totality of the patient, including signs and
symptoms that are not pathological?

To do what you imply would mean to prescribe on the totality of signs
and symptoms of a specific illness or state of ill health. This,
however, is considered bad prescribing by many classical homeopaths.

Regards

Luise

Hi Luise,
*What* is considered bad prescribing?
Do you mean bad to mix the signs and symptoms of an acute illness with
those of the chronic one, or ??

Hi Shannon,
No, the opposite.

By the theory I meant it is bad prescribing NOT to mix the sx of an
acute illness or a certain kind of illnes with other symptoms of the
patient.

Hi Luise,
I think you are mixing up the ideas of
a) "other symptoms of the patient" (which would mean e.g. changes in
appetite, thirst, temperature preferences, sleep, etc., which are not
strictly symptoms *of the disease*, but rather are symptoms "of the
patient"--the way *this* patient is *responding* to this disease, with
b) "other symptoms of the patient" meaning *chronic* symptoms of
their preexisting state.

Failing to separate (and leave out of the prescribing) chronic symptoms
from the acute state can lead you astray, so call that "bad
prescribing".

But failing to *include* changes in the generals etc. would be
prescribing on probably thin ground.

So--whether to include or exclude any particular symptoms "of the
patient" depends on knowing what type of prescription you're aiming
for--acute? situational? drainage? chronic? "lifetime"? etc.
Cheers,
Shannon
