3 year old with alopecia

Hi All,

I'm looking for some advice. I have a three year old patient with
alopecia. She is losing hair in patches on her head.

So far I have been treating constitutionally with Sulphur--results
have been-improved sleep(not so restless and more refreshed in the
morning), eating more foods (extremely picky eater), less aggressive
with classmates in nursery school, her exzema is better and I have
seen some baby hairs around the edges of the bald patches.
She is also now on nutra sea omega 3 and flora's multivitamin (I
believe its called Kindervite-its not a product I carry, but she
will only take liquids for supplements-she will not chew on anything
crunchy)

I would love some advice on any other direction or remedy (I'm not
quite prepared to change the remedy yet as I am seeing improvements,
and the only reversal came when her mother used cortisone)

We are also now looking at some allergy testing. Are there other
tests or products that any of you have found to be useful?

I thought that allergy testing took 2 years and was similar to
vaccination in its effects. I could be wrong. Please tell me if you
know better.

I know sulphur is given routinely for skin problems, but I would take
care that it also fits constitutionally. Otherwise you could be
suppressing deeper problems. Often, hair loss is not just a skin
problem. Vijayakar sees hair loss as a 3rd degree problem (p. 61)
stemming from suppression of mesodermal tissues (ie. connective
tissues) (Predictive Homeopathy part 1 Theory of Suppression, Prafull
Vijayakar p. 46). I would take her case fully.

The sulphur could clear the way for the constitutional to work deeper.
So there is no harm in what you are doing, but I would not continue
if it is not constitutional.

Suggest you stop the Omega 3 and start Omega 6 (re: eczema).
Suggest you check into family history of Thyroid problems, Mother/Father/Grandparents, etc.
Check pat for other thyroid symptoms.

Also consider hormonal alopecia

The usual (allopathic) allergy tests - (developed in the late 60s
early 70s) are sub-q or skin patch tests.
Sub-Q test involves injection o a drop of extremely dilute allergen
just under th surfacde of the skin.
Usually they test many substances in one sitting, marking off maybe 2
dozen areas on teh arm and ijecting one item in each square.
Response can be immediate, with a "wheal and flare" reaction. So you
get the results at the same sitting.
[Some people have delayed reactions too, up to 2 weeks later, which
they need to report.]

Another option is skin patch testing, where bandaids are impregnated
with allergen and placed on the skin for some time, mayb e a couple
days.. The too response might be immediate. Skin tests are a lot less
effective at finding whatg people are allergic to.

There is risk as if one is severrely allergic, there can be an
anaphylactic response - so the doctor usually keeps the person at
least a half hour to know there is not a severe response developing.

When they decide what allergens matter enough, a mixed dilute
solution is made using a dilution in accordance with the severity of
response )more dilute for serious response) and is injected at
regular intervals, like weekly, but later tapering off, to
"desensitize" the person.

There are other "allergy tests" in use as well as this one - but I
think this is the one being referred to, as potentially homeopathic.
Not vaccination as that is more like a bomb (very concentrated
foreign protein) than a tickle, and vaccines contain dangerous
additives.

This desensitizing uses a small indirect challenge that is extremely
dilute - not at all the same.

Hi Ellen,

I only treat constitutionally (unless there is an acute issue) and
this is definately a constitutional treatment (Farok Master's
Clinical Observations of Children's Remedies as well as several
other sources pointed to it) So far there have been improvements in
emotional and physical aspects of her personality, so that is why I
am not willing to quickly change treatments. I used to shy away
from sulphur because it repertorizes so frequently, but that doesn't
mean that it is never indicated, I just take it to mean that I
really need to be sure about it.

Can you please explain this? I'm not sure what you are asking
here... we are looking to see if allergies are potentially playing a
role in the alopecia. Her mom is looking into ELISA testing for the
sensitivities/allergies.

I helped an 8 year old with alopecia last year. Grew a full head of beautiful hair in about 6 months on Lycopodium which fit his constitution beautifully. (This was after his parents had tried many months of allopathic meds, creams, etc. while it just kept getting worse and worse.) He had many Sulphur qualities as well. Definitely comparable. Or if Sulphur seems a good match, look for signs of the trio -- Sulph, Calc, Lyc.
Allergy testing is quite inaccurate and will miss many "sensitivities" which present as true allergic reaction. Electroaccupressure or muscle testing is actually more accurate (apx. 70%).
