Arthur Bailey - a remarkable Human being

The last month or so have been very difficult for all of us here at Bailey Essences. As you probably know, this is a family business, run from Chris and Arthur’s home and all our staff feel like part of our extended family.

It is therefore with great sorrow that we have to tell you the news that Arthur, creator of the Bailey Flower Essences and the Bailey Stressbuster, died on Wednesday, 16th of April this year, quite suddenly. He died peacefully in Chris’s arms and we kept him at home, surrounded by flowers, candles and music for the day. All immediate family were able to spend some time with him to say goodbye.

For some time now, Arthur has been unwell. Gradually, over the last few years, but particularly over the last year, he has been withdrawing from the running of the business and has had to cancel courses. For several months, I have been doing the flower essence dowsing by myself, as he has felt less able to help. Finally, in February of this year, he found he was unable to dowse at all due to the pains in his chest. We thought it was a cracked rib from coughing as he had been unable to shake off a bad cough for several months. Eventually, as the pain became greater instead of lessening, we went to the doctor and were given a diagnosis of lung cancer. Arthur, with Chris’s minute to minute care, embarked on an intensive and innovative alternative cancer treatment to which he began to respond very positively. However, nature/the greater spirit took charge, and a pulmonary embolism ended his physical life with a suddenness which shocked us all.

A celebration of Arthur’s life will take place at our local church in Ilkley on 2nd May of this year at 2.15pm to which all are welcome. It was Arthur’s express wish that people should dress to celebrate, not to mourn. If you do choose to attend, we would be grateful if you would let us know, just so that we can get an idea of numbers. We know that Arthur has affected many lives with his beautiful and powerful essences and we understand that many people may like to share their thoughts and feelings about Arthur. To this end, we invite anyone who would like to do so to write a short piece and send it to us, either by letter or email. We will then make up a book of celebration to record the high regard in which Arthur was held.

We already feel that Arthur is in the light, free and unbound, but we have asked people if they would light a candle to celebrate his life and to wish him well on his journey. We like the idea of so much light and positivity being sent out into the world, and Arthur was always one for simple ceremony.

There will be very little change in the running of the flower essence business. All essences will continue to be made, dowsing for flower essences will still be done and the stressbusters are still available. All will be continued as Arthur wished, with the spirit in which he intended things to be done. The only change, for the time being at least, is that map dowsing will no longer be available. We can dowse to see if a stressbuster would be beneficial, but we can’t mark in the lines of stress on a map.

Sharing over the telephone can be quite distressing for our staff at this difficult time, but please don’t hesitate to telephone with any business queries you may have, or if it is urgent.

The following pieces are two which reflect Arthur’s beliefs and gentle person, and they will be used on the order of service.

What is to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.

And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.
