Hi,
Has anyone had experience or successes in treating osteogenesis imperfecta? I'll be seeing the patients - two children 2, 13, later this week. I'd like to be better prepared.
RefWorks gives me 4 leads- Para thyroidinum, Silica, Phos and Carc.
Beyond that.... anybody got some advice?
Sincerely,
Didi Ananda Ruchira

Hi Didi,
did you think of calc-c or any other calciums?

Re: Osteogenesis Imperfecta
I replied to this 2 days back and never saw the post appear in the
list.
Though I am not an expert in this , these are my thoughts
In general fragile bones, bowing of limbs, kyphosis, blue sclera,
deafness, scoliosis, multiple bone fractures, joint
hyperextensibility etc.
I would say still go by symptoms since the presentation varies –
Overall the calc salts predominate, Calc, Calc.phos, Calc.fluor and
Calc. iod. Also Sil
There is a strong syphilitic tendency or tuberculoid tendency.
Spinal Caries is Tuberculosis and so Tuberculinum and Syphilinum are
indicated sometime. I would bet on Thyroidinum as well.
Syphilitic remedies like Kreos, Hekla, Asaf, Aurums, Merc, Nit.ac,
Staph would be indicated.
The acutes of Calc – Bell, Rhus and of Sil, Puls are indicated.
See some of the rubrics below ( Knerr and Boericke)
Hearing deafness- gradually increasing _ syphil
syphilitic – Kreos, Nit.acid
from hereditary syphilis – Lac.c
Spinal curvature – Calc, Calc.p, Carbo.v, Ferr.iod, Phos, Rhus, Sil,
Sul, Ther
With open fontanelles in children – Puls
Increasing – Merc
Bones Curvature- Asaf, Bell, Calc, Hep, Lyc, Merc, Nit.ac, Phos,
Puls, Rhus, Sep, Sil, Staph, Sul
Bones development imperfect – Staph
Tardy with lymphatic enlargements – Calc
Bones tardy development – Calc, Calc.p, Calc.fl, Sil
Bones Crooking – Am.c, Calc, Calc.p, Iod, Sil
Bones Brittle – Bufo, Lact.ac
Softening – curvature – Asaf, Puls
Curvature esp. spine and long bones – Calc
Tendency to curve – Calc.phos
Extremities deformed and crooked – Calc
Limbs crooked – Graph
Malformation – Calc,, Iod
Disposed to soften or bend - Ferr
Joints weakness- as if they would be readily dislocated – Puls
As if they would not hold togther – Psor
Eyes – Sclerotica blue – Bell

Re: Osteogenesis Imperfecta
Not that I am an expert but some of the things worth noting:
Go by symptoms - there are lots of variations-
but in general the remedies given for the following would work-
Bones, brittle, spinal curvature, blue sclerotica, etc...anti-
syphilitics are most indicated.
For example
Outer chest , barrel shaped- Sars (anti syphilitic)
Spinal curvature - Boericke - Calc, Calc.p, Ferr.iod, Phos, Sil,
Sul, Ther
Bones, Curvature - Asaf, Bell, Calc, Hep, Lyc, Merc, Nitr.ac, Phos,
Puls, Rhus, Sep, Sil, Staph, Sul
Bones Brittle - Bufo, Lact.ac
Bones, tubular, affected - Bar.c,
Emaciated children, rachitis - Bell, Kali.phos
Bones development imperfect - Staph,
tardy with lymphatic enlargement - Calc.
Outer chest rachitic - deformity in costachondral junction - Calc\
Outer chest narrow, chicken or pigeon breast - Lact.ac
Sclerotica - acts prominently on that - Thuya
Sclerotica, bluish - Bell
I would think the Calc, Calc.p, Calc. sil etc. to be especially
indicated. Bar.carb as well. The acute of Calc, Bell has blue
sclerae. I would probably think of Thuya if there are sclerotic
changes in eyes...
And then the antisyphilitics - with their affinity for bones- Staph,
Sars( with chest deformities)
Good luck
Anna
