Hi Rochelle,
I don't know the details on this topic - I know that those who
strongly promote breastfeeding recommend to delay any food
introduction until at least 6 months and then to introduce very
slowly one at a time and it has something to do with the babies
developing immune system. I wonder what the age is when the immune
system has that healthy development where you can relax more about
introducing new foods? - my guess is around 2 or 3.
Then you balance that against that children who live in houses with
pets and less than perfect cleaning, develop healthier immune systems
and are less prone to asthma, and that children who go to daycare
often developed a pretty good resistance to colds - young adults who
go into a daycare or early childhood setting often have to go through
a year of constant colds while their immune system comes up to speed.
If a child is likely to have a nut allergy it is probably a good idea
to avoid nut exposure until there is a window of time when the child
can express what's happening and an adult is around who can take
responsibility. I think the nut thing and the age 5 is about the size
of the windpipe and the possibility of asphyxiation from small
objects. You have to be pretty dedicated to avoid nuts - there aren't
that many packaged foods that can declare 100% guarantee of no
exposure.
If she has been told to avoid peanuts, I wonder why it isn't also
suggested to limit Soy, as you have done. There are Whey protein
drinks and powders as well - but you have to watch the sugar content
in most of those meal in a shake drinks.

conversation as I answered nuts!! I have suggested fruit now!! She
wanted to know if she could have an UltraLife Shake as it is full of
nutritious things and no junk. I suggested not because the main
ingredient is soya protein and that these contain iso flavones which
are plant hormones which may affect her hormones.
offspring eating nuts until they are age 5 or so - it will be a new
food and at this stage they may be allergic to it because they have
not been brought up with it during childhood?
