Insomnia
Insomnia
I am new to homeopathy and would like to ask if anyone can tell me what remedy would be helpful for not being able to sleep due to
many thoughts racing through my mind. I sometimes think about my whole life or problems of the day and can't turn them off sometimes
for hours. Even when I finally get to sleep I will wake later and go through this process all over again.I also have a 'troubled'
feeling at times lately. Is there a remedy that will turn off this mental exercise, and would it be homeopathics or cell salts both
of which I just purchased.

Your symptoms are well recognised within homoeopathy and various remedies
are indicated.
However, I would recommend that you see a competent and local homoeopath as
one needs to deal with the TOTALITY of your symptoms.
There reason is that one needs to find out the kind of thoughts and your
reactions to them. Are they anxieties or are you dwelling on matters.
Some people are anxious about the tasks that they need to attend to and
these keep them awake. A pad and pencil is surprisingly useful. As soon as
the thought about a job wakes you, write it down and then forget about it.
You will then hopefully go to asleep.

I agree with Soroush and encourage you to find a competent
homeopath in your area.
I too have trouble getting to sleep some nights due to a 'racing
mind'. I have found that daily stress, a busy life and sometimes
even changes in the weather can upset my sleep - or inhibit my
ability to become relaxed enough to sleep.
When I'm feeling challenged, I simply take either Valerian or
Cammomile tea to calm and sooth; a nice hot bath to relax, and then
as suggested earlier I journal and try to get my thoughts organized
on paper so that they do not continually bounce around in my mind.
I an usually able to get a good nights rest and awake feeling alert
and refreshed. This however is not a true form of 'insomnia'; but
rather I believe like I said the effects of being over worked and in
some days..just simply over tired.
True insomnia is not hard to treat nor over come - but again; a
totality of your symptoms must be considered here.

various factors, then guide you about potency, repetition, what to do
if things do or don't change...
things you can work on yourself that could specifically help with sleep
and calming your mind--from nutritional things such as minerals, herbs,
etc., to lifestyle approaches such as exercise, yoga, meditation (and
*everyone* should do these anyway!!), and another great thing to try is

I can totally relate with your situation. I've had this problem for years.
One thing that has helped me is GABA which is a neurotransmitter, which
helps the brain "defrag" more effectively at night (REM Sleep), and allows
me to sleep better. There's a great book out called THE EDGE EFFECT that
helps educate on the subject of all the different Brain Neurotransmitters,
and how they all work differently, and how to determine if a person is
having problems with Serotonin, or if its Tryptophan or GABA, or one of the

Yes indeed to the latteer. Almost every person who ever tried certain
methods of meditation practice - those that are based on "not
thinking" for a while - will testify to that.
Concerning your case: do you get too little sleep because of this
problem?

There are other "states" of awareness, which may feel very, very like
"not thinking", and presumably *that* is what is being sought, when
people are "trying to not think". When consciousness becomes
sufficiently still, it can go beyond thought into (what has been
described as) "pure consciousness"--consciousness without an object,
and without thoughts per se. It's quite a lovely place to be! (And
must be awfully nice to be able to do it at will!)
But that's not really what you've after in trying to go to sleep...
Maybe it would help to have a "mental focus" for sleep--something like
the ol' counting sheep routine, tho sheep have never done much for me.

well- counting sheep seems too much like work esp. if you also imagine
you are the shepherd - how about something restful and peaceful like
eating a "shepherd's pie"
My suggestion would be ( in the ole Homeopathic way) instead of trying
to avoid such thoughts - actively look for such thoughts- say to
yourself that you are going to start thinking about everything that
happened from the morning and review every little detail and probably
view it from all angles and view points- may be you should also think
how different people who were at the scene were reacting to things
etc. make it as detailed and as thorough as possible...do not fight
them - instead tell yourself that you are doing it by decision and you
need to make it as thorough as possible
the difference here is - till now these thoughts were not under your
control - they came and you had to experience them - now they are
under your control - you are giving yourself permission to be doing
that and also you are taking the energy out of this whole issue by not
fighting or feeling distressed by these thoughts - now you are having
these thoughts because you are allowing them to happen...once you can
control them to come , you can also control them to go....
