thanks so much everyone for all the information. the spot was about the
size of a quarter
when i discovered it. it was under a latex glove that i was wearing and so
did not notice
the burn till after i finished working. other spots that were burned
healed fairly quickly
with little effort. but this one had been festering for a couple of hours
before i saw it. the
skin had already developed a blackened layer. it was pretty sore for
several days but i
could work with it. it was only when the crust began to shrink it felt
like it was pulling the
surrounding flesh which became red and a bit swollen. after a couple days
of this, the
crust broke loose on one side and i was able to squeeze some pus out from
under. that
relieved much of the pain. however, later that day, the crust peeled back
revealing the
raw flesh beneath. i think exposure to the aire caused the burning pain
and the radiating
sharp pain into the wrist and forearm.
so what i have gathered from everyone's responses, i need to keep it moist
until the
new skin begins to form. causticum seems the best internal rx to take.
aloe vera
is a good concommittant and thio to be taken after the scab is off to
prevent scarring.
the scarring is the least of my worries.
my major concern was for any long term effects from the chemical burn that
may enter
into my system.
in working with this chemical combo, i received many burns on my face and
hands but
none of them reacted so deeply since i could wash them off fairly fairly
quickly and they
were exposed to air all the time. this one spot though was contained under
the glove and
held the chemical. pretty nasty stuff!
my last question concerns rubrics for reporatizing this burn. i had
difficulty finding adequate
rubrics. Generals, Burns and Skin, Pain, burning. not very helpful.
what suggestions do
others have.
