[SPAM] prostrate gland

The prostate gland is very much like a walnut and has a tough outer layer
which normally keeps within any tumours (whether benign or malignant).

As tumours grow within the prostate they enlarge! The outer casing itself
also enlarges to accommodate them.

However, bang in the middle is where the urethra runs which is soft tube.

So as the tumour expands and is limited by the outer layer, pressure is
applied onto the external walls of the urethra causing it to collapse on
itself and thus restrict the flow of urine.

Up to a certain stage, the force of the urine coming from the bladder is
sufficient to open this for the urine to flow, although gradually more and
more discomfort and pain will be experienced.

After a certain level of enlargement, the force is not enough for complete
emptying of the bladder or that the pain is too much.

At this stage LASER therapy is undertaken. Effectively a probe is inserted
into the penis and push to the site of the collapse and it then 'rebores' by
burning and at the same time cauterising the urethra.

This procedure is effective for a while.

Because it is a rebore only, they are not having a go at the tumours within
the prostate.
