Exact and Accurate Practice of Homoeopathy with precision

Post by chikungunya23 »

There is one great difference between homoeopathy and all other
systems of medicine like allopathy, ayurveda etc. This basic
difference must constantly be kept in mind if you want to have
success in the practice of homoeopathy. Let us explain this:
The job of any medical practitioner consists chiefly of two things
viz., first diagnosis and differential diagnosis and, second,
knowledge of medicine for various diseases. We go to a doctor first
to know why we have a particular complaint. (e. g., convulsion may be
caused by brain tumor or worm in intestine or due to decayed teeth).
In other systems, after making the diagnosis, the doctor gives
medicine for that disease, viz., insulin for diabetes, antibiotic for
typhoid etc. No allopathic physician would give insulin for typhoid
or antibiotic for diabetes.

That is all as far as other systems are concerned. But when we come
to homoeo practice, we too have first to make a diagnosis. While
making a prescription, it is not the same as in allopathy or other
systems of medicine. There are six hundred and odd medicines in
homoeopathy. The strange feature is that a homoeo remedy called for
in jaundice for a patient may be called for cancer in another
patient. In other words, the name of disease is not considered for
selecting the remedy.

In such a case, the reader would immediately ask `WHAT IS THE BASIS
OF DECIDING THE HOMOEO REMEDY FOR A PATIENT' (with any disease)?
In homoeopathy, medicine is selected not on name of disease, but
on `uncommon' or `rare' or `strange' or `peculiar' or `mind'
or `general' symptoms.

Thus, in addition to making the diagnosis, the homoeopath
additionally tries to find out the "uncommon" or `rare-strange-
peculiar' or mind symptoms in the patient, which are totally ignored
by doctors of other systems.

A few cases actually treated by us would enable the reader to
understand clearly how a remedy is selected for any patient in homoeo.

CASE 1: A patient with peptic ulcer, weeping eczema etc. came to a
homoeopath who made his prescription. After collecting the medicines
the patient said, "Doctor, I am not taking treatment to live long.
But I have an aged daughter to be married and a son who is looking
out for a job. Who would come forward to marry my daughter, if I
have a weeping eczema? Only because of that, I want to get
cured. "Before I die, I want to settle things in my family; my
daughter getting married and son getting a job. Then I can die
peacefully."

NOW, DOCTORS OF ALL OTHER MEDICAL SYSTEMS WOULD ONLY AND SIMPLY
IGNORE AND REJECT the above words of the patient (attitude of the
patient towards his disease). But not in homoeopathy. We take this
alone.

Petroleum is the name of a homoeopathic remedy. Now we request the
reader to turn the pages of BOERICKE'S MATERIA MEDICA (First 688
pages contain MATERIA MEDICA and the remaining pages are REPERTORY).
In the materia medica part, remedies are given in alphabetical
order. Turn to the page containing Petroleum (page.no 501) and in
the para "Mind" we find the following:

"Feels that death is near, and must hurry to settle affairs."
Now, this sentence exactly fits in with the remarks made by the above
eczema patient. This remedy in 10M potency was given in single dose
and it completely cured the patient.

CASE 2: A patient was in hospital after sudden shooting up of blood
pressure, malaria etc. Doctors diagnosed that his kidney was not
functioning properly. I went to the hospital to see the patient and
on coming out from the ward, was talking to the eldest son of the
patient. I asked him to tell me what all happened and he said, "my
father suddenly developed diarrhoea and became very weak." He
started telling that since the disease may terminate fatally by next
morning, he asked to send for his lawyer to write his last will, that
money in his bank should go to his only sister, house for son etc.
The attitude of the patient in this case too corresponds to the
description in the homoeo remedy Petroleum quoted in the previous
case. Though here it is malaria, renal failure etc., same Petroleum,
single dose, made lot of improvement and in two days he was
discharged from hospital. He is now living in good health, even
after two years.

Irrespective of the number of complaints a patient may suffer from,
only one remedy indicated by his `uncommon' symptoms would cure all
his complaints. Thus, we do not give several remedies at a time -
one for hypertension, another for kidney, yet another for
intermittent fever (malaria) etc.

Thus, a prescription in homoeopathy is made not on names of disease,
but for `uncommon or rare or strange or peculiar' or `mind'
symptoms. The symptoms are
(i) either reported by the patient; or
(ii) reported by the attendant or those around the patient; or
(iii) observed by the practitioner.
We treat the `patient' and not the `disease.' The totality
of `uncommon' or `rare-strange-peculiar' and/or `mind' symptoms of
any case at a given time would point to one remedy only and not more
than one. Such a remedy at that time is called similimum for that
patient at that time.

Some more cases are given below to illustrate the reader what we mean
by `mind symptoms.'

CASE 3: Baby Lakshmi, 4 years (Referred to me by an allopath
for `muscular dystrophy')

The allopath was present and he pointed out that lower limbs alone
are mostly affected and the child is freely using both the upper
limbs.

When the child was shown to me it started crying and the father said
that the child was afraid of strangers.

Asked as to whether it mixes up freely with neighbour children and
relatives he replied that it would talk freely with them.
Since the father did not say any further symptoms I asked a general
question to tell me what all diseases the child had since birth (for
which they had gone to a doctor and got treatment). The father
replied that the child had

(i) frequent fever with running nose;
(ii) discharge from ears;
(iii) frequent diarrhoea.

Now, the computer/homeo software is highly useless as the following
analysis of the case history would show.

The begineer (Dr. Hahenemann has said, "Many of my followers, I am
sorry to say, are but half-converts.") would simply select the
remedies for (1) coryza, (2) Ear, discharge and (3) diarrhoea. That
is a mechanical way and would be a signal failure. Let us now learn
what is an artistic method of working out a case.

A correct interpretation for homeo prescribing is as under. Ponder on
the above three (past history) symptoms and you get the following:

(i) rhinitis (frequent fever with running nose is rhinitis)
(ii) otitis media (discharge from ear)
(iii) gastro-enteritis (frequent diarrhoea)

The suffix `-itis' appears in the above three symptoms. `Inflammation
of any part is denoted by the suffix `-itis.'

Therefore, we look into KENT'S REPORTORY under GENERALITIES:
INFLAMMATION… internally; Acon., Ars., Bell., Bry., Canth., Echi.,
Gels., Iod., Lach., Merc., Nux-v., Phos., Plb., Puls., Sec., Ter.
(Top-grade remedies alone are taken)

The child is afraid of strangers. For this we should not take "Fear
of strangers" but it is `timidity'
KENT'S REPERTORY: (Page 88-89) MIND: TIMIDITY: plus above list =
Phos., Plb.

We have to use our brains to do the analysis which the computer-
software cannot and would not do. The other claim that computer is
time-saving device is farce.

Now, at this stage, that is, after having selected the remedies (on
available symptoms) through the Repertory we have to apply our
knowledge of materia medica. By looking at the above two remedies we
find that the remedy Plumbum met. has more spinal symptoms (the
reader must note that only lower limbs are affected while upper limbs
are in tact, which means affection of spinal cord). If we read
Plumbum met. in Boericke's Materia Medica the following words in the
preamble agrees with the case:

…paralysis is chiefly of extensors… partial anaesthesia …
Progressive muscular atrophy. Infantile paralysis.
Excessive and rapid emaciation. …Important in peripheral affections…

(The parent told me that they noted only at the first year of age of
the child that its lower limbs were week).

(As far as homeopathy is concerned, there is not much difference
between atrophy/dystrophy/emaciation etc. etc.)

Plumbum met. 10M, single dose, was prescribed and the child is making
rapid recovery.
