juices and alzheimers

The year before my mother got alzheimers...every week she would cook an entire
turkey pan with all kinds of vegetables. And for the rest of the week she
would drink the leftover juices in the pan. she was not buying organic
vegetables. makes ya wonder.

Was she cooking in an aluminum pan? Were the juices stored in an aluminum pan? There are now more questions about telfon as well. Unless you specifically suspect tainted vegetables, I would look to other contributing factors long before looking to vegetables. Alzheimers is such a 'catch all' term used for so many problems it's hard to make clear links - but I believe aluminum cookware has definately been linked.

It makes me wonder may be it is the Alzheimer's that made her do this
kind of thing - cooking all kinds of vegetables and drinking the
leftover soup for a week !!!

it was one of those old fashioned blue turkey pans...with the white dots all
over. i don't know if they're aluminum or not.

No, that would be steel coated with enamel - not a bad choice as long
as the enamel is intact.

oh, i remember those pans fondly and actually have a roaster like that
i think they are fine as long as the enamel surface is not cracked or
scratched
which would allow the base metals to get into the food

For the little extended cooking that I do, I use stainless steel
stock pots, and iron pans and woks.
