You know, I actually had a patient who had what sounds very much like this
condition. She had suffered from it for many years, and was exhibiting all
the symptoms of compulsive cleanliness and delusions about parasites (which
were never found) along with the lesions (they were truly frightening). She
used to be a nurse, and used her connections to find every skin and parasite
specialist in Canada and the US that she could see to find some kind of
treatment. The lesions terrified her and they were quite horrible to look
at; and she also had so little physical energy, an inability to sleep, and
constant pain and itchiness from the disease. The "fibres" you're talking
about--I haven't seen this program but on my patient's skin these fibres
seemed to connect one "lesion" to another. She claimed that when one lesion
would go away others "connected" to it (via the fibres) would come up. I'm
not sure if this is the same thing described by the tv program on ABC, as
none of the docs she'd seen could provide any kind of concrete diagnosis
about her illness.

Not surprisingly, she suffered from a terrible, suicidal depression. She
disease was so bad she had to stop working, lost her home, lost her
marriage, lost all contact with friends.

She did very well with staphysagria, then syphilinum, and the last remedy
she got was pulsatilla.

The staph was the first medicine she'd received in years that allowed her to
sleep and wake rested. Once the syphilinum was given, the lesions began to
clear up and stop coming (in the past they'd go away, but then return again;
or if one went away, another five or six would come up). Once they went
away on visible parts, she felt she could resume daily life again--go out
and see people, or undertake projects requiring what I'd say was an
extraordinary amount of time and effort (like taking on big landscaping
projects--this seemed to be the thing she liked to do, working with plants
and flowers).

So I don't think making a nosode of this disease is necessary, and I doubt
the nosode would actually correspond to the patient's "totality" anyway.
One of the great advantages of homeopathy is that you don't need a proper
name for a set of symptoms, you don't need the "official" diagnosis from
conventional medical doctors to be able to work with your patient to help
them restore their health. And, of course, you don't need to focus on the
extremely particular physicals to find the best remedy (it wouldn't be that
important to pay attention to the fibres so much--I'd want to know more
about the patient's mental state, any possible aetiologies, modalities,
other symptoms that accompany the particulars, etc. etc., just like any
other case).

Wow Nancy! Thanks for the great report!
Staphysagria.... Yes, I can see how that would figure into the feelings that
were shown in the people who were infected with this condition. The one
daughter said she felt totally isolated, had lost her friends; no one would
come over to her house or get near her for fear of catching it. She felt
bad and could see her mother getting worse, and her father dying.... she was
depressed.

Thanks Nancy, Chris & Robyn for the good reminders.
Nancy--what a terrific case! Do you remember seeing the fibers that
seemed to connect the lesions? Doesn't sound exactly like what was
described in that way, but maybe a trivial difference. How long a time
period did this span, and did she go all the way to cure, do you know?
Do you recall what your pointers were to syph--was it mentals, or the
nature of the lesions, or ?

Hi Shannon,
Well, they didn't look like "fibres" to me so much as just a kind of (odd
now that I think of it) "root system". Have you ever seen the runners that
certain plants put down in order to spread out? I remember that that's what
they appeared to be, to me. My patient referred to them as "fibres",
though.

Doesn't sound exactly like what was

She and I worked together for more than 2 years--and I hear from her on
occasion. She's doing far better than she was when I first saw her, but I
didn't work with her until it was all gone. There was a marked progression
towards cure in that she'd "started" her life again--could stick to a
regular schedule, had lots more energy, the skin lesions cleared for the
most part, she had resumed relationships with new friends, and she was
making plans to find her own home again and start a new business.
There were many. There we lots of mental and emotional symptoms coming from
her and from her entire family as well (the whole family was still suffering
from denial and grief as one other child had actually committed suicide a
few years before I saw this patient). The lesions themselves were quite
destructive to the skin, but there were other advanced illnesses she was
suffering from internally--and the family history certainly pointed me in
that direction too. I just had this sense that this part of the disease
just went so deep. The syphilinum helped to stop a lot of the pain
associated with the sores themselves and then they started to clear up.
Months later I started to see symptoms which pointed me to pulsatilla, and
she did extremely well on that remedy.

Hi Joy,
The lesions were very real--dark purple to very dark brown on the surface of
the skin, appearing in ovals; they seemed to have an outline or a raised
edge (you could feel the endge on some of the lesions, on others the edges
were completely smoothe.

She had these marks in various sizes everywhere--arms, hands, neck, parts
of her face, back, legs, thighs, absolutely everywhere. They were itchy and
they also sometimes "tingled". They looked like they were only on the
surface of the skin but the "fibres" seemed to be faintly "under" the
skin--visible but not completely, just clearly connecting clusters of them.
Some of them were flaky, others not. They would darken and fade as they
came and went.

That's what I remember of them, anyway.

What were the lesions on the show like? Were you actually given any idea,
or were they more like something the patient felt was there?

What I saw on the show (smallish screen, biggish room, and I need new
glasses ) I recall as being somewhat darkened, maybe somewhat
raised a the edges, but mainly looked raw, what I would call
ulcerative. One picture was on a young boy where they'd first appeared
at the sides of his lips, looked sort of like darkened and raw-looking
vertical, parallel (support for syph?) cracks in the lip. Others were
elsewhere on the body (different patients) and more oval-ish. The
"fibers" that were shown appeared to be growing straight outward, like
a hair.

From what I see discussed here and in the Morgellons site-
Infestations - scabies ( skin, scabies)
Ulcers, indolent, rodent etc.
Sensations - creeping, crawling etc.
Brain Fog ( Sulph) petroleum
Various neurological symptoms weakness, fatigue etc.

Psor, syphilinum , Merc( weakness with worms), staph etc. occur
commonly. Ars ( inveterate scabies), Sulph, Sep, Secale are also
freq.

Looks like there is a preponderance of the 'syphilitic' drugs...

Theoretically if the other symptoms can be covered, the "fibres"
should be taken care of- If Nancy's experience is to guide - then
Syphilinum and Staph have the power of making the fibres go away and
this is how we build clinical corroborations and clinical symptoms
anyway.

The suggestion for Thiosinaminum by Didi is not far out either.
Various neurological, arthritic complaints, fibrous tissue, scar
tissue ( there are slow healing ulcers and heal abnormally etc)/.
Such malignancy also points to the animal poisons, Lach, Crot,
Spiders etc.(Anthracinum?)Condurango ( lip involvement, cracks etc)

The combination of ulcers, weakness etc. also points to Acids..

I know we are flapping in the wind a bit here (well I am anyway) but I
was intrigued by the phosphoresence of the fibres in some of the
images I saw but if the fibres are 'hairs' perhaps this is some kind
of hirsutism that has been suppressed in some way (some of the nosodes
will come into play here as per nancy's case) - getting to sound like
wolf man/woman Joy

The phosphoresence is intriguing, isn't it!
But as far as being hirsuitism, not if the report re analysis of the
fibers was correct. That researcher said that they did not match any
of the 4,000 natural or manmade materials in his database. A
microscope(?) picture of one showed red and blue threads(?) within the
fiber. Does not seem to be hair...
