I am not knowledgeable about homeopathy....just interested. I have
thought about going to a practitioner but my medical bills are over
$4,000 and I am not ready at this time.
From reading your posts I am quite impressed with the knowledge and
caring that goes into your work.
I am using estrogen and progesterone because I had painful vaginal
atrophy. I started menopause at about 42.
The atrophy led to vulvodynia (?) which I have now. So there is a very
real reason that I need the hormones. I know there are two schools of
thought on that. I have cut down on the estrogen patch and using local
estrogen to supplement. I did this on my own.
I wanted to interject my experience to show that for some women
hormone replacement is necessary.

Re: progesterone
Hi Diane,
I certainly agree with you that sometimes one needs to do *something*,
and the best tools for the job must be chosen from among those that are
available! For you, at this point, that has meant hormone replacement.
But it's worth also being aware that there are *many* other
options--not just a choice between homeopathy and drugs! In my
experience, and that of many of us, homeopathy is in many respects the
best approach simply because of the potential for deep, *curative*
(basically permanent) results; and the observation that in homeopathy,
the "side-effects" are "side-benefits"--one often winds up "curing"
things one hadn't even thought of as curable, or worth mentioning!
But when that's not a workable option, for whatever reason, consider
looking into other more "holistic" approaches too--for hormone
balancing there are herbal, nutritional, and other approaches that can
work to re-balance the hormonal system in a deeper and more harmonious
way than HRT can. And almost always this will wind up being far
cheaper than going the medical route, tho sadly, insurance is not
likely to pay for herbs or vitamins... Still, you may find it
worthwhile and not *too* expensive.
Having the guidance of a professional is *wonderful*, so if you can
find and afford any sort of holistic practitioner, I would recommend
that! (And take on homeopathy when you are able!) But if that's not
feasible either, then--READ!!! Find a local health food store that has
a "reading library", and use it; google this and that; check out herb
and etc. books from the library, and be willing to try herbs and
dietary suggestions that seem reasonable. One can hardly go wrong with
cleansing, allergy reduction, immune support, emotional work...
And by this I do not mean to say that HRT would *never* be
appropriate--that i do not know, one way or the other. But IMO there
are other things that should be tried first, but most people are not
aware of their options, sad to say...
Good luck!

Re: progesterone
Thank you for your response. I am not usually a conventional
medicine advocate. Only because of severe pain and inability to
function have I resorted to conventional meds.
I am using bio-identical hormones which in my mind makes it more
palatable.
The real concession for me is that my "specialist" for vulvodynia
has my on an anti-depressent. Never thought I'd resort to that but
it has helped significantly.
I do take a variety of vitamins and herbs, anti-oxidants etc. This
is always my preferance and I'm sure that has also helped. I do a
lot of research on this for myself, my husband and even my pets! (2
dogs and a cat)

Dear Diane
When you have consultation with a homeopath, each symptom would be
investigated in detail of how, when, where, with what other symptom, cause
etc etc
For example, please see some of the options possible with just Pain in the
Vagina (vulvodynia)
FEMALE GENITALIA/SEX - PAIN - Vagina
FEMALE GENITALIA/SEX - PAIN - Vagina - centres in vagina from other parts
FEMALE GENITALIA/SEX - PAIN - Vagina - dryness, from
FEMALE GENITALIA/SEX - PAIN - Vagina - epistaxis, after
FEMALE GENITALIA/SEX - PAIN - Vagina - paroxysmal
FEMALE GENITALIA/SEX - PAIN - Vagina - pulsating
FEMALE GENITALIA/SEX - PAIN - Vagina - touch
FEMALE GENITALIA/SEX - PAIN - Vagina - urination, during
FEMALE GENITALIA/SEX - PAIN - Vagina - extending to - chest
FEMALE GENITALIA/SEX - PAIN - Vagina - extending to - upward
FEMALE GENITALIA/SEX - PAIN - Vagina - extending to - urethra; meatus of
FEMALE GENITALIA/SEX - PAIN - Vagina - menses - before
FEMALE GENITALIA/SEX - PAIN - Vagina - menses - during
The responses to all the symptoms are then carefully analysed and a remedy
is worked out on the basis of the most similar to the patients relevant
totality of symptoms.
