fishy remedy?

Post by VR VR »

I have a teenage patient who has received Zinc and Nux-V so far, and has been showing some improvement on mental and physical levels but doesn't seem to be moving at all emotionally.
During the intake, she said the following: I have nightmares of birds attacking me with their beaks, and also killer whales, dolphins and sharks that attack me. Dream I’m in a pool with all those animals, I’m on my way out, they try to bite me.
Big whale.
My brother swam with dolphins, but I was afraid they would attack me.
Scared of Tigers, dinosaurs. I can’t rely on any animals, they may seem nice but you never know.
I was wondering if it might be worth venturing beyond polychrests and looking at the feeling of what's going on in this case. Some sea animal which is preyed on by whales, dolphins and sharks and is also prey for birds maybe? Any ideas? Any info on provings?
Emotions that come out very strongly in this case are very dark, heavy duty jealousy, very easily offended by family. Very closed to anything that can help, presenting defiance and arrogance - but very fearful inside.
I can't post more details. Any input appreciated as always.
Vera

Sometimes the figurative, i.e. the animals and their actions, actually
become a metaphor for the reality which could be, as you suggest in the
case particulars, jealousy and easily offended. It is tempting to go
with the animal image because it is picturesque but the essence (for
want of a better word), seems to be about being prevented from
achieving - "I'm on my way out, they try to bite me" and her reaction
to that - defiance, arrogance but still fearful.

Interesting that in the rubric 'dreams, animals, fights with' is
Staphysagria. Just a thought. Best wishes, Joy

Hi Vera,

Whilst I can see the imagery might point up a smaller remedy perhaps, I was
wondering if you put more emphasis on the 'animal' and attack theme you might find
you are still in polychrest land ? Also from a more psychological angle, animal
imagery can be about unexpressed anger or rage, the shadow side of the persona, so
maybe she fears attack because she would LIKE to attack (others) ?

Without the rest of the case, uneasy about suggesting remedies, but Hyos came to
mind FWIW.

regards, Barbara

Nice, Andy!
I'm interested to see Lyssin in the last crossing, as rabies miasm was
what came to my mind (not with confidence, but just as a possibility).
The fear, "delusion, she will be injured" or "... is being injured";
and the feeling of fear bursting with suddenness and violence from the
unconscious. But only if there's more in the case to back up the
thought of Lyssin.

This is the same thought that came to my mind as well. Fear of
becoming aggressive, loss of control, loss of reason....is what is
coming out as dreams of attacks by animals...

but at the same time people who have such subconscious anger and
aggression tend to be extra-soft when dealing with others... (
Compensation) they somehow feel that once they lose control they could
harm others and so usually tip-toe around others... whereas here there
is an overt jealousy and arrogance...

But still it is an interesting angle and need to be kept in mind...

hard to tell. I'm sure she would like to attack others as well, there is a latent (and apparently sometimes not so latent although I haven't seen it myself) ferocity. So far I've always been wary of using smaller remedies and looking for remedies through imagery, but I realized that sometimes staying with larger remedies on principle is in its own way a form of prejudice and I should open up to other possibilities.
Lyss is interesting - I don't know how much regret is built into the emotional picture of the remedy, I don't think she feels regret at all, or allows herself to feel it. Ign also isn't far but I feel it doesn't quite fit.
The suggestion of Bufo made me aware how little I know the remedy. I seem to classify it as masturbation and that's it. Can anyone give examples of use of Bufo where there was little or no masturbation in the case?
I'm going to check out maritime creatures anyway - I asked an animal-wise friend which animals may be the prey of whales, dolphins, sharks and birds, and she suggested seals or sea lions.
All this research seems very conducive to going off to the beach...!

Hi Vera,
Can you describe how this shows up--is it something like pessimism, or ?

Hi Shannon,
sorry - been offline for a few days.
It is a sort of mixture of pessimism and arrogance... In the end I gave Sepia, we'll see what happens!
thanks for input,
Vera

sting ray. Joy
