To the eagle-eyed,
If you followed up my link on this you will have seen that the lyssovirus concerned was a bat one and not the rabies lyssovirus carried by land mammals. I think they called it bat rabies at the time which was probably inaccurate. Anyway, same family, same method of transmission, same symptoms, same outcome, same vaccination recommended I.e. rabies vaccination. I read somewhere that it was one of two cases in the decade. I don't see that it affects the discussion here on susceptibility( more important to public health officials) but that might be why some people thought I was imagining the case. It doesn't actually affect the point I was making, either, because I wasn't actually making a point, just recollecting a news item as it appeared.

*on the subject of rabies deaths, there was a fellow in Scotland who
died of it a few years ago, following a bat bite. He was the only one
in the battery (?) not to have been vaccinated as he relied on
homeopathy. Oh dear.
