Catarrh and Coryza

Post by Feras Hakkak »

Hello to all,

Would you help me with this question:

What is the difference between catarrh and coryza?

I think there are many rubrics in our repertories that we do not know exactly what they mean. If I have time, I will open this subject. As an example, what is the difference between amorous, amative, and lascivious? I think it is worth to re-study the repertory rubrics.

With warm regards,

Feras Hakkak

Coryza = (Catarrhal) Inflammation of the mucous membrane in the nose.
Catarrh = the produce of such inflammation and in the rep we have ear, eye.
stomach and rectal catarrh too!

Hope this is of help.

Catarrh - (Med.Dictionary) is an inflamed condition of a mucous membrane
, causing a discharge of mucous ( usually that of the nose or throat ).
Intermittent discharge of runny or viscous fluid from the nose brought on by
viral or bacterial infection , allergy , chemical irritants , or dry air ,
all of which irritate or inflame the mucous membranes.
Homeopathic medicine regards chronic catarrh not obviously due to any of the
causes mentioned above - as a symptom of general toxicity of the body ,
catarrh is the body's attempt to rid itself of toxins which are not being
adequately dealt with by the liver or properly excreted by the kidneys ,
bowels , and skin . Catarrh can be a symptom of colds, hay fever and
allergic rhinitis, a food allergy , nasal polyps , influenza, or sinusitis .
It can also be reaction to spicy foods, dust , cigarette smoke and other
chemical irritants , gas or oil fires , central heating and over dry air,
certain drugs and cold or damp .
A lot of homeopathic remedies have catarrh as one of their symptoms , very
skilled prescribing is needed to clear up chronic catarrh .

Coryza-head cold, a cold in the head . The word " coryza" came from the
Greek " koryza"which is thought to have been compounded from " kara "-head +
" zeein " -to boil . The " boiling over from the head "refers to the runny
nose, rhinitis and all-to-familiar feature of a head cold .

Dear Soroush and Irina,
Thanks for your explanations, but yet I don't know the difference between cattarh and coryza. What you wrote didn't show the differences. Would you give some examples to show that?
Thanks again,
Feras
