From Choudary - a Study in MM
This is a fungus that grows on the Indian corn; hence it very similar to our
remedy Secale cornutum. Many symptoms: common to both these remedies.
The affinity between these two remedies, is more marked in their action on
the female sexual system.
This fungus sometimes grows as large as an orange, often larger.
It is covered over by a surface of dark gray or brown epidermis On ripening
this epidermis bursts.
We make triturations as well as tinctures from this fungus. In making the
tinctures we add five parts by weight of alcohol to the powdered fungus.
For the proving of this drug we are indebted to Dr. Burt of the United
States.
The most valuable symptoms of this fungus are to be found in its action on
the female generative organs.
It is a noted abortifacient. Dr. Burt administered two drachms of ***** to
two pregnant bitch dogs and in both, it caused abortion. Mention is also
made of cows aborting fed on Indian corn infected with this parasite.
We use **** for passive hemorrhage from retention of secundines after
miscarriage.
The blood that keeps oozing for days and weeks, is darkish and coagulated.
The uterus itself is enlarged and the cervix tumified; the patient complains
of a constant hearing-down pain.
There is profuse discharge of blood from the enlarged uterus and the flow is
accompanied by backache and sharp pain, across the lower abdomen from hip to
hip.
This flow of blood is sometimes intermittent.
It stops and then on slightest excitement reappears. Other similar remedies
are, Ambra gris., Bov., and Calc. ost., and a brief differentiation will be
to our advantage.
In Ambra grisea, we have the same intermittent flow.
It is also similar to ****** that the hemorrhage that shows itself
frequently between periods, is caused by the least bit of exertion.
A short ride, a little cycling, a long walk, lifting of a light weight and
going down-stairs or up-stairs a little oftener bring on a discharge of
blood.
This remedy is marked by a great varicose condition of the veins. During
menses the left leg looks almost blue from distended varices. Itching of the
pudenda, swelling of the labia, dyspnoea, palpitation and anguish are
further indications of Ambra grisea,
In Bovista, another great remedy for menstrual irregularity, (lie blood
shows itself between periods as with the former remedies, but the
distinctive point is that the flow takes place mostly during night and
towards morning when she is lying down, During day when she is on her feet
and moving about, the flow is hardly present. In this remedy the menstrual
discharge is always ushered in with diarrhoea.
A puffy condition of the whole system is particularly characteristic of
Bovista.
In Calc. ost. our fat and flabby patient, the period shows itself several
times during the same month but in Calc. ost. it is due more to mental
excitement than to over- exertion.
A slight mental excitement as that caused by a little anger, grief, worry,
anxiety, sufficient to cause a show of the period,
******causes neuralgia of the testicles.
The patient complains of a constant aching distress in the testicles, more
specially in the right. Hamamelis has a similar symptom.
The pain is very severe, and it shifts suddenly to the bowels; the pain is
accompanied by nausea and cold sweat on the scrotum.
It is particularly useful in orchitis after gonorrhoea when the disease
becomes chronic and the acuteness of the pain gives way to a feeling of
soreness in the testicles. In this connection we should not lose sight of
Oxalic acid a remedy where the neuralgic pain in the spermatic cord becomes
almost unbearable.
The patient avoids all movement inasmuch as the pain becomes aggravated by
the slightest motion.
The ******patient suffers from frequent attacks of tonsillitis.
The tonsils seem to be his weakest parts.
They are congested and enlarged.
The left tonsil is especially affected.
It looks large and dusky and the pain on swallowing is intense.
It is of a lancinating character and it extends from the tonsil to the ear.
The throat is dry and there is the feeling of a lump behind the larynx winch
makes her swallow constantly.
There is one other feature of ******* that has so for escaped our notice and
that is alopecia.
We find a complete loss of hair under this remedy. Dr. Hurndall relate: of a
case of alopecia in a bitch dog that he cured with ***** 3x in
live-drop-doses given three times a day.
The symptom; which led to this prescription were her tendency to abort and
the hemorrhage to which she was a frequent subject. His surprise knew no
bounds when the above symptoms subsided and a perfect coating of hair sprang
up in three months time.
We give below the indications of a few other remedies noted for loss of
hair.
Aurum met is applicable mostly to syphilitic patients. Carb. veg. is useful
when the trouble starts after seven disease, abuse of mercury and during
parturition.
The falling, of the hair is most marked on the occiput.
Lycopodium is a great remedy for alopecia after abdominal diseases and after
parturition.
The scalp is full of eruptions am thick crusts, which itch and burn
particularly after exercise which generates heat and warmth.

homoeopathy. It had been observed that pregnant animals feeding on maize
affected with smut were very liable to abort. Roullin had noted that
shedding of the hair, and sometimes of the teeth, occurred in animals and
men; that mules fed on it cast their hoofs, and that fowls laid eggs without
shells.
The provings brought out a specific affinity for the generative sphere of
both sexes, and especially for the left ovary and uterus.
**. congests the uterus and produces haemorrhages, generally passive or in
clots. It is in uterine haemorrhages, menstrual, post-partum and
climacteric that ** has been most successfully employed.
It has also relieved vicarious menstruation, bleeding taking place from the
lungs and bowels; and bleeding between the periods with left inframammary
pain.
Hurndall (H. W., xxxvi. 27) relates the case of the small bitch which brings
out many features of ** action. About a fortnight before he saw the patient
she had aborted five foetuses, at about the fifth week of gestation. Since
then there had been passive haemorrhage of dark clots. Moreover, she was a
perfect specimen of alopecia, not having a hair of any sort on her body and
only a little about the head. Os uteri soft, spongy. Great tenderness
about the posterior parts when manipulating the hind-quarters.

haemorrhage was completely arrested, tenderness reduced, spirits revived,
