fear of clowns

Post by Theresa Partington »

That discussion was triggered by a query of mine. The list seemed to be full of people who were/had been scared of clowns themselves or were/had been scary clowns themselves - to the extent that it was hard to see how the tradition has continued if we are representative.
My patient (not the only clown-phobe I have ever treated) was a 5 year old autistic boy. In spite of the discussion I ended up feeling that the fear was part of the common symptom of not really understanding that things might not be what they appear - a lack of understanding of acting/joking/masks etc. He did improve a lot in all respects, including this. He had MMR remedy, and ended up on Tarentula. But then he had a tonsillectomy which knocked him back and parents appear to have given up. Anyway i didn't find a way to use fear of clowns directly.

If I remember aright, there may be a lengthy discussion of this subject in
the archives. My sense of how long ago is likely to be wildly inaccurate,
so I'll leave that to someone with a better time sense than I :-)))
