Is this perhaps something that needs clearing up - Q = quater and D = die =
day - quater = quarter = 4.

I have always understood this to be 4 times a day

QID = quater in die = which also means 4 times in a day

Perhaps it matters if it is uppercase or not but my latin/french says not

Two sides of the same coin? :-)

The 'every day' bit is not in question - it is whether it is 4 times a day
which QD is (quarters).

What does one make of someone who is *extremely* hypo, but also emaciated?
(She eats well -- small, frequent meals to avoid bloating.)

A lot might depend on the medical history - if the thyroid was damaged due
to previous hyper state or damage to the thyroid but then went to hypo (as
can happen in Hashimoto's disease, so called), but she stayed emaciated. But
being plump with hypo and thin with hyper is just the 'normal' and there
will always be individualisation. Who or what is saying she is hypo?

If you study rx that have hypo thyroid in their sx picture you will find
some that are or can be emaciated.

And the rest of case will always add to the sx picture to differentiate.

It would prove of immense value to have a more complete clinical picture of your patient. The totality of the picture.
What is the body a.m./p.m.; are the hands & feet cold; fatigue; insomnia; wakes without experiencing 'rest'; appetite; bowels; muscular/skeletal pains; mental wooliness; eyes; dizziness; pathological emotion state; respiratory sighing; menses description;is patient overweight; what is stress factor; etc
Would suggest considering sarcode remedies: Pituitary; Hypothalamus; Thyroid; Adrenal

Dear Atiq

My goitre patient was getting on fine painting the iodine on but when she put it on cotton wool and attached it in place she fell asleep and woke with 2 nasty burns either side of her neck. Unfortunately she didn't contact me until a few days later. I have given her some Causticum 30 to take for 3 days.
Now this goitre is growing fast!!!! Today she had a scan and it shows no nodules or cysts , just enlargement which is consistent with hypothyroid. She is now feeling it when she swallows which she is getting frightened about. Spongia has thyroid with constriction and painful on swallowing and it is in Dr Ramakrishnan's Cancer book for Cancer of the thyroid. She also had a biopsy today but in normal UK fashion it will take weeks to get the results. The Sepia 300 I gave her has done nothing except make her tired. The metal and emotions in Herings MM seem to fit her quite well. What do you reckon if you have had experience of this problem?

The q or Q in QD is there for the latin word, which I forgot, saying "every", hence "every day" meaning once a day.
That is what I was taught and what is used in English speaking practices and hospitals.
Maybe the latin is wrong, but the convention is there............
