Thanks Donna,
That's good advice; I do need to know more about just what the cause
was. Problem is that when I *ask* about these things, he rolls his
eyes and changes the subject... Sigh, what's that about the
difficulties in treating family? :-P (Which often means, trying to
treat people who would not normally be presenting for treatment anyway.
Oh well, arnica and nat-m have been our friends so far! :-) )

Well, if it is your husband then a massage is always welcome and he would not even need to know he is being “treated” . Kathy

Just a thought - but I would consider using a topical - such as arnica gel (or whatever is appropriate to this individual), hot shower, massage, or such - and get him relief. Once the pain is eased - then backtrack looking for the cause - poor posture, new desk chair, tension at work, argument with family member, too many hours in traffic, new activity, old injury, etc. But when someone is in pain with a cramped muscle they are not likely to be able to help you with the detective work. Unless the cramping is a chronic problem - I would be hesitant to look for a rubric until more about the nature/timing/related issues are examined.

I *love* "community repertorizations"! :-))
And you are so right--tells us as much about the community as it does
about the case in question! And it's funny, sometimes even a
suggestion that might at first seem off-the-wall in context of the case
has for me turned out to be a really useful "jog" to the thinking
process. Community brainstorming is wonderful...! Thanks all!

Hi, Shannon.
What you say here: "looking, acting and feeling pretty beat-up in general, from a particularly hard week at work" sounds a lot like Arnica, especially when he "rolls his eyes" at your questions (sending the doctor away??? :-))) I've found that very low dose Arnica (like 6c) can work wonders in aches and pains from hard work -- helps emotionally as well as physically.
Arnica can have constitutional implications as well as just local ones. It's in the Compositae family, along with such remedies as Calend, Cina, Cham, Eup-perf, Bell-p, Echin...
Sankaran says the feeling typical of all the members of the Compositae is that "he's a tough guy -- he can take all the pain." Strongly complementary remedies include Rhus-t, Calc, Bell-p, Nat-s, Sulph, Hep, Led....
I also learned this summer, with the episode of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, that Arn is a good remedy to think of when an achy bruised feeling is part of a febrile illness (dd. eup-per) ... It has a lot more applications than we are typically aware of.

Thanks Tanya,
I do always like to get those re-affirmations that "constitutional ...,
and often one not particularly focused on [the current local
complaint]."

I am 100% for Community Repertorisation - but the Community should not
forget WHAT NEEDS TO BE CURED!

It seemed to me that all the suggestions were for GENERAL muscle spasms -
whereas Shannon is dealing with a specific muscle.

Ah, that's a GREAT angle! I'll see if I can figure out what the muscle
is, and what meridian it might relate to--I have some of those books
around... Knowing what it relates to could be very helpful--if not
for finding a remedy (not sure I know enough of those correspondences),
at least perhaps in other ways. I remember the muscle as running
diagonally across the scapula--is there a muscle that does that?
(Ouch, my anatomy is weak...)

Thanks Rosemary,
That gives me some nice added angles! And--as you'll probably have
read by now--Arnica did in fact (seem to) help; at any rate the next
morning the shoulder was better, and his energy had started coming
back--tho a weekend at home would certainly have helped anyway. But I
did also feel he was showing a whole lot that seemed to suggest
arnica... I gave him a 200, so will see how it plays out from here.

As to Arnica having a lot more applications than we're aware of--yeah,
I've been noticing that for a long time!!! "Study Arnica" has been on
my "do someday list"...

Sometimes generals cover the particulars-this is what guides
Boenninghausen to Rajan Sankaran

what is good for the goose being so for the gander-

Arnica is for blunt injury to any part of the body-
Also the question asked was for what rubric could be used- and so it
was given- we can never give the exact remedy based on a discussion
and also can never understood the full dynamics thru these- we can
only suggest some possible items that need to be looked at by the
practitioner anyway-

All we are doing is providing more perspectives and view points...
