Well, if it is your husband then a massage is always welcome and he would not even need to know he is being “treated” . Kathy

Thanks Donna,
That's good advice; I do need to know more about just what the cause was. Problem is that when I *ask* about these things, he rolls his eyes and changes the subject... Sigh, what's that about the difficulties in treating family?

(Which often means, trying to treat people who would not normally be presenting for treatment anyway. Oh well, arnica and nat-m have been our friends so far!

Just a thought - but I would consider using a topical - such as arnica gel (or whatever is appropriate to this individual), hot shower, massage, or such - and get him relief. Once the pain is eased - then backtrack looking for the cause - poor posture, new desk chair, tension at work, argument with family member, too many hours in traffic, new activity, old injury, etc. But when someone is in pain with a cramped muscle they are not likely to be able to help you with the detective work. Unless the cramping is a chronic problem - I would be hesitant to look for a rubric until more about the nature/timing/related issues are examined.
