perhaps you are not aware of a movement usually referred
to as "eat local." it encourages people to learn about
the local growers and producers whose farms can be visited
and thus one gets to know exactly where their food comes
from and how it is grown. this also supports small local
producers. i, fortunately, live in area with several
small organic farms and several csa's. we have a successful
organic food coop about 15 miles from me and i am working
on developing a local food coop based on local producers
and organics. for meat eaters, there is a local beef farm
supporting grass fed and organic beef.
but even if not living in a farming community, people can
begin to form buying clubs very easily which offers the
opportunity to select distributors and food quality for
your own group.
