[H] meat-centered diet, was Researching Fungus Fungi

Post by Teresa Kramer »

I think where Atkins and Mercola may be way off-base is that the meat they propose eating in such large quantities is NOT GRASS-FED but fed on corn. Did you know that meat was first used to feed beef in the 30s, I think it was, and the marbled, tender, relatively inexpensive meat that resulted made the meat-raising industry switch over to corn very rapidly. (horrible for the environment, as presently raised by agro-business in the US) Check out the Weston A. Price Foundation info where I got those ideas. Dr. Price called it whatever is in the fat of grass-fed animals the “x-factor” when he did his research back in the 50s. As I understand it, it is still not really identified.
Our species evolved eating grass-fed meats, first wild and later domesticated in large quantities, right? But grass-fed meats, even farm-raised grass-fed animals are NOT fatty, just as game is not fatty. Now that we can order Pennsylvania farm meat (and raw milk etc.) over the internet and have it delivered nearby, I have realized just how lean grass-fed meat is. I should have known it since I lived overseas (in Africa and Russia) for many years and there you usually had to add oil to the pan to cook any meat, including chicken and pork.
Chicken that walked around on its little legs in the open air and foraged for a lot of its food is a bit tough, but boy is it tasty—just like back in Madagascar! I used to try to be a vegetarian, or at least, a “primary vegetarian”, but that does not square well with bipolar disorder, it looks like. Must be something in that raw milk fat and lean meat that my body was craving all these years... I don’t feel too bad about eating (in moderation) meat from animals who were raised humanely and then using the healthier body to do volunteer stuff when possible. Teresa (Northern VA)
The Mercola one looks like an Atkins type diet to me!!

What I have found, While Doing Research has told me, that there are many problems when using corn, corn can be contaminated with a fungus, if animals are fed this corn or feed item that has been contaminated you would get ill .. This has happened with food fed to certain animals. The company was Diamond dog food which was contaminated with a fungus and many animals died.

That is not relevant to my comments re grass-fed meat and raw milk. Teresa

Sorry it is very relevant, fungus is on the grass that animals are fed on. You will find that fungus is the problem. I am sorry you are wrong.

mercola supports organic, grass fed meats. he also
supports free ranging wild game. and apparently corn
and grains are neither good for animals or humans.
mercola particularly rails against the wheat grains.
i am not sure what i really feel about giving up all grains:
we are so conditioned to them. but organic, brown rice, spelt,
perhaps older grains in great moderation. that works best for
me.

Hi Jeff,
Fungus on *grass*, or did you mean fungus on corn?

Hi (Jeff/Teresa? I'm confused about who sent what...),
You meant that "*corn* was first used to feed beef cattle...". :-)
Below:
Yep, horrible for the cattle too; they need lots of antibiotics to keep
them "healthy" under the crowded, dirty, feedlot, junk-food (corn is
junk-food for cows) conditions.
Well, more so now than then.
Partly it's the different fatty-acid profile; grass-fed meat has (I
read) a fatty acid profile closer to that of fish than to grain
"finished" meat. Another part is "conjugated linoleic acid"/CLA; and
apparently numerous other nutritional benefits too, as well as less
involvement with antibiotics etc.

Yup, my feelings exactly!
I'm still not happy about "the carnivore thing", but have finally
accepted that it is the world we live in; plus I have found that I do
need some meat to really run well.

Grass-fed is better for *so* many reasons, both nutritional and other.
The farther one can eat from the "industrial food mill", the better,
IMO.
Cheers,
Shannon

Sharon I am not sure, I did not write about cattle, I did not write about Atkins diet, or the way these animals are fed. We all should be worried though animals are not meant eat other animals, cows are not supposed to eat other cows, there are many problems a lot having to do with it fungus which is all I am interested in at this time. Prions are something that I have researched, and you may want to look it up , on FDA sites there is lots of information.
