Hi, Shannon.

I loved your "technical terminology" translation :-)))

I've thought seriously about both Med and Thuja for this client. The
physical affinities (particularly the many GI symptoms and the centrality of
hormonal fluctuations) and the skin symptoms don't make Thuja a prime remedy
choice. Med is still a distant possibility, at some point. I agree, Thuja
was definitely a remedy in this general constellation.

Hi, Joy.

Good point about Munchausen -- that had occurred to me -- it's almost to
that point, but not quite.

I have pretty much concluded that the remedy has to be Puls., in agreement
with your comments.

Let me share something that I'm wondering about, though.

During my clinical training, there was a client who presented with an
intensity of symptoms similar to this person. The major focus in the clinic
case was on suicidal depression, but the anguish about feeling forsaken was
at the core, along with constant changeability, and other core issues that
for me added up to Pulsatilla. The general concensus among everyone else
was that the remedy couldn't possibly be Pulsatilla because of the intensity
of all the symptoms -- that Pulsatilla has to be a "soft" remedy. As with
my current patient, the person was basically yielding and soft, but not the
symptoms. Weeping was a prominent behavior in both cases, as well.

I have no idea if Pulsatilla would have helped the clinic patient, since it
wasn't given.

But I've wondered ever since and wonder again now about the intensity of the
person's suffering and how that fits with the usual MM descriptions of a
person needing Pulsatilla. There are intense symptoms in the rubrics that
contain Pulsatilla, of course.

I'd be curious to know if anyone has experience with Pulsatilla curing a
patient whose symptoms manifest extreme intensity (in their constant
changeability).

Dear Rosemary, there is a much darker side to Pulsatilla and
'intensity' of sx can just mean that the simillimum is 'shouting' out.
It is very easy to typecast remedies and I think we tend to do that or
learn to do that early on when we begin to study remedies in an attempt
to remember them well but I don't think we do ourselves any favours in
typecasting remedies for speedy memory pulls.

You only have to look at some of the darker delusional states of
Pulsatilla to get a glimpse of that depth and darkness

naked man is wrapped in bed with her
women are evil and will injure his soul
delusion always alone
sees devils
delusion divided into 2 parts
visions of fire
delusions about criminals
delusions he is insulted
delusion pursued by enemies
sees horrible visions
delusion he has done wrong
delusion neglected his duty

'blackness' is represented well throughout the sx picture as well, as
you say, some other pretty intense sx such as the fears =

evil, dark, insanity, people, poverty, death, darkness, dread of work,
fear of eating etc etc

In fact if you really study these intense sx you can understand more
why 'consolation and sympathy' is so important to Pulsatilla - there is
always a reason why someone who needs Pulsatilla requires so much
consolation -they are not always soft and bendy but deeply disturbed.

I always think that Pulsatilla is on a par with the Lacs for the basic
and fundamental fear of being abandoned or thrown away - something to
do with growing up and lack of love and nurture, Pulsatilla
representing that sometimes difficult stage of puberty. Best wishes,
Joy

Good points!!
Another example of how "ailments from" can be tricky, I'm recalling one
case where what was assumed to be "Ailments from grief" (trouble
following death of her husband) turned out actually to be about
rage--the woman was furious with her husband for up and dying on her!
In another case (trouble after nursing a dying relative) the emotion
turned out to be not grief, but fear--she was afraid that she was going
to die exactly the same way, and it terrified her.

Thanks Joy,
I find this a useful expansion on the image! Just for fun, I'm sending
some past saved posts adding further expansion to the usual "fluffy"
:-) image of puls.

Looking to expand my understanding further, I would love to hear what
experience others have had in using Puls for men and boys? Is the
"yielding disposition" still prominent?
Thanks!
Shannon

Where is the confusion reg Pulsatilla teaching? Pulsatilla is
full of contradicting and changeable remedy, if you think it is mild
gentle yielding disposition, it also has angry, rage & stubborn,If you
think IT is thirstless remedy,IT also has thirst some times. If you
think it
has diarrhoea,IT also has constipation.
Most important is THIS CONTRADICTION IS PRESENT IN ONE CONSTITUTION
ONLY. Fixed symtom may be contradiction for PULATILLA

I am not so sure that 'ailments from' are trickier than any other sx to
recognise they just have to be accurate. If Emily doesn't mind me using
her case as an example :-)

Grief is being targeted as the prime 'ailments from' - if you see grief
as a colour, let's say blue - blue isn't so far from purple on the one
side and green on the other. Purple could be 'trauma/shock' and Green
could be 'loss'. So if you pick 'grief' and it's the wrong colour to
pick then you won't find the simillimum, whereas choosing the purple of
'trauma/shock' this takes you much nearer to understanding the panicky
and anxious state he has developed because you might associate shock
with more acutely sudden and active sx and consequently this will help
you select different rubrics - Aconite like. Likewise if you select the
green of 'loss' and find connections with this and the constant vertigo
- such as a fear of falling, loss of position, loss of stability, loss
of the future, threatened survival etc, this too will take you down a
completely different journey - Veratrum like. And yet Trauma/shock,
Grief and Loss are all tied up together in the 'ailments from'. So,
tricky yes but they just need examining more carefully and Chris's post
says it so well. Best wishes, Joy

Obviously I am not Chris but I would say that you can see Sulphur is
everyone, Sulphur is the big cleanser after too many rx, too much of
anything that has brought about a lack of reaction, or a deficient
reaction or a situation where complaints are always relapsing -
Sulphur brings you back to baseline - it's all there in the materia
medica. Best wishes, Joy

Thanks Chris..
If there was a patient who didn't change his clothes, heat made
worse, a drunk, didn't like to wash, skin problems, poor dietary
habits, etc I'd have no hesitation of prescribing Sulphur.
In Hahnemann's time the hygiene was much worse, and Sulphur was a
popular remedy. Also not only did Sulphur FIT with totality of
symptoms but he prescribed it to bring out the remedy picture as you
said. Kent went to skid row to hand out Sulphur.
I've always stuck with totality of symptoms and sometimes it's hard
for me to deviate from that pattern.
How much of a totality of symptoms do you consider in giving Sulphur
when you'd like to give it to surface symptoms that are asleep so
you can see a clearer picture of sleeping miasms? For instance if a
person is better warm, do you NOT prescribe Sulphur..Or if they take
regular baths and have clean clothes but have the mental picture of
Sulphur do you prescribe on that basis?
It's like a double edged sword...give Sulphur to awake sleeping
symptoms and based on theory ~~ prescribe based on totality of
symtpoms?
Can you explain this to me? thanks
