Re: Suicide prevention question

Post by Joy Lucas »

An extraordinary number of remedies come into play for such a desperate
situation. Difficult as well homeopathically because, like in any acute
situation, the remedy has to work quickly and preferably aim to get
the simillimum first time round.

The 'revenge' aspect is a helpful clue - as is the 'method' (in this
case hanging, he is left dangling, his whole future is in the hanging
balance and the notion of 'falling' comes into the scenario) - as is
the 'planning' aspect (letting people know what he is going to do) -
finally, 'only bad things happen to him' can mean a number of things
such as delusion persecuted, delusion despised, etc

Remedies that I would include would be a number of the milks; veratrum;
anacardium (he has a stomach problem??); china; and hellebore depending
on which of the above aspects are dominant (hellebore is in the hanging
rubric).

For what its worth and from a miasmatic point of view I would offer
that in a psoric state someone would think about suicide but would
never actually do it - a sycotic state would mean that they could
certainly attempt it but might make sure someone is around to help them
or bring them back (the 'planning' aspect might mean that); someone in
a syphilitic state will do it, often without warning but it will be
successful sometimes in front of many people, other times when totally
alone.

What a sad world.

Best wishes, Joy

Rosemary,
Maybe his secretiveness also can come into play in choice of remedy, also his unwillingness to talk about himself.

Many thanks to everyone for their thoughts in this matter. Yes, it has made us really think a lot. We've also realized that really we've done all we can, and what happens is absolutely not under our control.

Joy's observations about miasms were fascinating. At this point, he's clearly been in a syphilitic state, which was intensely obvious yesterday when we saw him.

We talked with him today, after a dose of 30c Aurum in water yesterday afternoon, and he now intends to go scream at the officials of the university and sue the university -- in my opinion, much better courses of action than either killing himself or killing others. We encouraged him to follow this impulse and go talk with the university dean.

He's also promised, at our urging, to call us when he gets the notification from the university, whatever the verdict is. He's been adamant about everyone else who (in his eyes) is even a little bit unethical or dishonest. He imposes much higher standards than anyone else would ever think of (censorious), so we believe that he will keep his word.

We've also found out about a "mobile intervention team" from the Mental Health Department, who apparently will go collect him and hospitalize him for 3 days, on an emergency basis if needed. Several cities here in California apparently have these, although they're a well kept secret. I don't know if they're widespread or not.

We've told him that we would talk to the university if he didn't, and that we would call the emergency team if it seemed indicated, just so he knows (which quite possibly means when he calls us after getting the notification, if he still plans to kill himself, he will call from an unknowable location, but we can't control that. It seemed important to tell him that he also can't control what we do).

He has more of the Aur 30c if he needs to take any further doses, which I expect he probably will, if he goes back toward the deep despair we saw yesterday. I had given him this relatively low potency yesterday while he was here, and had him take a single drop while I watched -- because I didn't want to provoke an exacerbation, and feared the kind of rage Cinnabar spoke of in her fascinating post. Apparently rage was exactly the externalization that appeared after (temporarily, I assume, given the low potency) mitigating the suicidal desire.

I really have appreciated people's reasoned responses to my question, and also the emotional support and prayers that have been offered. Thank you!

Rosemary
