You raise some interesting and well-considered questions!

Briefly, in my experience homeopathy can heal more deeply and thoroughly than anything else, including Chinese medicine.

For some people, the road to finding a remedy that works well and holds its effect is a tortuous, twisted one, leading through several remedies that seem indicated, that help briefly and then stop working. Continuity is a key element in treatment for this type of situation. There is a progression, and the next remedy picture comes up and needs to be perceived and followed. Over time the remedies hold longer and work more lastingly, until -- yes -- the deeply needed remedy becomes apparent and really works.

Close case management is a crucial key to following this thread, which is easy to lose track of if one is not looking for it, or if the follow-ups are not consistent and thorough. I think this is an element of homeopathic treatment that is often not taught well, and I often see clients who have been treated with 20 or 30 remedies by another homeopath or series of homeopaths, but with no sense of remedy relations or continuity in the case. It has seemed that at each visit they had simply decided that the remedy they gave was not THE right one, and kept trying to treat the original case with wilder and wilder guesses.

As I've said before on this list, the right remedy is clearly and immediately apparent mainly with clients who have had little prior treatment, especially allopathic treatment, to confuse the symptom picture. (I'm not saying anything here that Hahnemann didn't say very clearly!). But it IS generally possible to treat confused cases effectively -- it's just a long series of detective jobs. And it does generally take at least a couple of weeks to 4-6 weeks (depending on the person, the remedy, the symptoms, the general rhythm of the case) to know what a remedy has done and that it's finished its work. Changing remedies before the previous one has finished its work tends to confuse the case and symptoms further. Sometimes, as someone has said, there is a clear reaction within a day or two to a new remedy. But not always. Some people and some remedies work more slowly, and the remedy's action is just as positive.

In any case, it makes perfectly good sense to seek out another treatment modality in the interim, to counter really difficult symptoms. And, I hope you will come back to homeopathy and that you are able to work with a homeopath willing to follow the remedy clues through the maze that sometimes exists.

Thanks to everyone who has replied to my post. There is a lot of
generosity on this list!

I feel that I should clear some things up.

I am far from "set against" homeopathy. Were that so, I would have no
use for this list. It would also make my decisions much easier. The
source of the problem is that I stubbornly believe in homeopathy,
despite the fact that it hasn't been effective for me, yet. I believe
in it so much that I want to practice it. Were my circumstances
different, (if my symptoms knocked me out a little less), my patience
with homeopathy would be almost endless. To be cured by such a
philosophically tight system almost amounts to proof of the existence
of God. I would hold out for that for a long time! (I'm sure by now
half of you have got a short list of remedies for me )

Regarding my case, I was deliberately vague because my purpose was not
to elicit prescriptions or diagnoses. As you all know, understanding a
patient/case requires at least one good interview, preferably
face-to-face. I told you nothing about my symptoms, the credentials of
my homeopaths, why I switched/was referred, or how my cases were
managed, since I didn't feel it was relevant to what can be
accomplished between strangers, over e-mail. Please, don't rush to
conclusions.

As far as obstacles to cure are concerned, I have seen some
(conflicting) theories tossed around about the various conditions that
can obstruct cure, and I was fishing for hard evidence. I gather, from
the responses, that there isn't much.

As a human being, I would like to make a request: if you feel yourself
jumping to give advice, ask a question.

What I find interesting, and which no one has addressed, is that you placed "obstacles to cure" as the subject line. Obviously you feel there is an obstacle in your healing path at this time. You present your situation very clearly and have devoted enough time to homeopathy to begin studies, so this is not a case of ignorance. Have you identified your obstacles or do you just have a feeling they are there? If you are having trouble identifying the obstacle, or if your homeopaths have not been able to help you clear the obstacle, then perhaps another professional should be part of your team. If this needs to be a naturopath, therapist, mold control specialist, whatever - you need to pursue the problem.

Your earlier post indicated a long term problem that was interferring with life - preventing you from continuing your studies, and leaving you weak. You asked for clinical details of obstacles. [You also asked for off list contact - but did not give your email address.] I think you already know that you must understand, and work on your 'obstacles', whatever they may be, before you can expect the deep and complete healing process of homeopathy to continue.

This list contains a vast resource of individuals who have approached, studied, and practiced homeopathy from every possible direction. If you are looking for assistance, you'll find no lack of options and opinions. You say that you were 'fishing for evidence' and since you had no immediate response to your request, your response is "I gather, from the responses, that there isn't much".
I'm sorry you get that impression. However, did you really expect us to come accross with lists of obstacles we have seen and found ways to resolve and the timing of the remedy results after resolution? That would be a very long list indeed.

It seems you know there is an obstacle. You state you are considering consulting a doctor of Chinese medicine. By all means, consult other professionals. Depending on your obstacles, there may be a number of professionals you could consult. You are the only one who can determine if they provide appropriate care for your case at this moment.

Dear Colleagues

As I read the first post, the thought that came to my mind was 'What is it
that you have not told your homoeopath?'

The story from the Dutch teacher confirms this.

I sometimes get this feeling with my patients also and so I ask variations
on the theme - what was it that you have not told me or had decided you were
not going to tell me?

One often finds the centre of the case in the answer.
