Thank you Susan, I have indeed looked into Shellac coating of capsules.
Again the quantity issue comes up for me.
I would need to coat 36 capsules per day - and they need to be dipped several times - only one half at a time as one has to hold them somehow at the nondipped end. I figured that pencil erasers are the perfect size holder for size 00 capsules, and one can buy them in large lots, which I did.
But say one decides three dips is good (= six dips of half a capsule at a time - each half capsle taking six days for three dips both sides) each then a week's worth to be done DAILY is 252 capsules per week, dipped 6 of 7 days, the seventh used to make the 256 caps, in a capsule maker that does 24 at a time manually. THAT'S 11 SESSONS. some get broken.
There is also an impossibility of accuracy:
Magnesium chloride hexahydrate powder is extremely hygroscopic and the total in 36 caps a day has to be exact. Due to the water absorption and impossibility of measuring accurately as a result, there is no way to get a consistent amount into the capsules either. Yo do need to use powder, the liquid will eat through the coated cap too soon. I've tried, I arranged a prescription for the powder. I am very sensitive to the wrong amount in either direction. I was unable to get it standardized.
I'd not have time for anything else to even try this - even if I could solve the amount per cap problem - it is realistically not practicable.
I also looked into getting the Eugdragit enteric coating used by manufacturers, and persuaded someone wo does research design of coatings, to give me the recipe on how to use it. The manufacturer SAYS they will send a sample but I never managed to persuade them to actually do so. Eudragit can be made up like nail polish consistency to coat capsules. But that still leaves the quantity accuracy issue - apart from getting someone to supply the Eudragit. Sending some to me is contrary to FDA ideas of appropriate use. Heck I might have a decent life and 8 hrs sleep between magnesium doses instead of four as now - gee we can't have that!
Namaste,
Irene
