No there is no craving. It was just my suggestion for her to snack on and she told me she wasn't allowed to!!
Is aflatoxin the mould some nuts have?

Dear Gail,
Oooh as you say most of the whey drinks, powders and "health" and "energy" bars are loaded with glucose syrup and loads of rubbish. The rest of what you say I also agree with!! The soy - is not the nut accept that I am concerned with - but the iso flavones (plant hormones which act like oestrogen)

Yes - it is the mould and can be on grain too - I think most have it, but obviously if not dried quickly and stored properly it increases.
HOWEVER, FSA say:
"Serious allergies to nuts and nut products and some seeds affect about 1 to 2% of people in the UK. Your baby may be at higher risk of developing a nut allergy if you, the baby's father, brothers or sisters have certain allergic conditions such as hayfever, asthma and/or eczema.
If your baby is in this higher-risk group, you may wish to avoid eating peanuts and peanut products when you're pregnant and breastfeeding."
So something as simple as that may have been taken to the nth degree as a total ban!

Soroush

I believe it was Souroush that mentioned that peanut is in many vaccines....I wonder whether this is the cause of the recent appearance of 'nut allergy'.
It isn't very long ago that this allergy reared it's head, and if peanut is being put into the body through the vaccine route, by-passing the normal immune system, could this be useful knowledge, to enable treatment of both vaccinosis and allergies...finding that link?
Wouldn't this mean that an allergy to nut, is the result of a vaccine induced Miasm?

Allergies are more likely to develop from *overexposure*--eating a food
every day. Rochelle, what about suggesting that your patient simply
rotate among a number of good, healthy snacks? Supposedly if you have
at least four days between "exposures", that would prevent the
sensitivities.
But I think Gail's suggestions re maintaining a healthy gut are also
very on-target--probiotics, omega 3s, and I'd add making sure there is
a good protein supply (in a form that's well digested). Some foods are
far less prone than others to cause allergies. Soy is very commonly a
problem, tho apparently if the soy is sprouted and/or fermented it
becomes very much less of a problem--have her check the label of her
shake for that.
Any food that's being *craved* should be put on high suspicion for
being an allergen. Which is trickier during pregnancy, since some
cravings will be from nutritional need, and I'm not sure how to sort
that out! Except maybe that indulging a recent and short-term craving
is less likely to cause problems than one that goes on and one??
But also--if the baby *does* develop allergies, we have ways to set
that right! At some point it would not make sense to sacrifice the
mother's *definite*, in-the-present need for FOOD--good food, and
plenty of it--on basis of a theoretical, statistical, possible effect
on the baby!

People in Madagascar, for example, eat rice every day, almost ONLY rice, cooked green leaves, and krill-like shrimp in many cases, and never develop allergies to anything. Despite other problems (endemic diseases, etc.) they must have very healthy gut flora.
Check out the Weston A. Price Foundation’s new article (was in their magazine, Healthy Traditions, sorry I have no link) on the relationship of GAPS (maybe that can be googled?) or gut flora problems and autism, for example. The Leaky Gut Syndrome writings have been saying for a number of years that allergies develop when a leaky gut allows whole molecules of food (or some such, i.e., poorly digested food) to pass into the blood stream. I may not be saying it right, but gut health is MORE than worth checking into with allergies and autism.
Quite possibly reasonable exposure to complete sunlight plays a role—or at least the Vitamin D formed in skin from that exposure plays a role. Sunscreen will surely be shown to have been a tragic mistake, IMO, except for those who have to be in the sun for long periods daily and have fair skin. Others are meant to be in the sun/exposed to full-spectrum light. Worth googling as well. Teresa (Northern VA)

BTW, I do not believe this is off-topic since Dr. Hahnemann himself was concerned with the “environment” of the body and that would include gut flora nowadays. There is an aphorism on removing “environmental” problems that are maintaining causes. Teresa (Northern VA)

For what it's worth, it's important when deciding on what "nuts" to eat or not to know that peanuts and soybeans are in the same family, and are legumes (same as beans, lentils, etc...). The word "nuts" at least in US English, more generally refers to "tree nuts" -- seeds of fruits that grow on trees or bushes. The legumes are found in pods, generally on viny plants. The peanuts (the shells are pods) are found underground, attached to the roots. It's interesting the confusion of categories that has arisen in English between some legumes and some "nuts."

Hi Rochelle,
All these nut allergies are actually caused by MOLD that is inherent to nuts and seeds, mainly Aflatoxins etc. A lot of mold allergies show up as other symptoms, such as Celiac and wheat sensitivities etc.
Once the mold toxins are corrected (long process) and the mold is inhibited on the nuts, a lot of these ‘allergic’ people stop being allergic. The best way to deal with mold toxins on nuts and seeds is according to Dr. Hulda Clark’s protocols, with Vitamin C powder. You mix the vitamin C powder with cold water, and rinse the nuts and seeds with that solution. You can then dry them. I also suggest sprinkling some Vit C powder straight onto the nuts in the container AFTER the rinse.

Hi Gail,
Thanks for this. Future mum was asking me what she could healthily eat when she is hungry between meals and that is how we got onto this conversation as I answered nuts!! I have suggested fruit now!! She wanted to know if she could have an UltraLife Shake as it is full of nutritious things and no junk. I suggested not because the main ingredient is soya protein and that these contain iso flavones which are plant hormones which may affect her hormones.
What do you think about the suggestion that if mums avoid their offspring eating nuts until they are age 5 or so - it will be a new food and at this stage they may be allergic to it because they have not been brought up with it during childhood?
