Hi Susan,

Yes, Mercury will appear to be retrograde commencing 17 Sept 15 @ 11:00 AM in the Pacific time zone and appear to be direct on 09 Oct 15 @ 7:52 AM in the Pacific time zone.

However, the energy being expressed seems to be the energy of transiting Mercury square transiting Pluto.

I really do know. Deal with this all the time. There are some issues where there is no middle ground
that is acceptable. Racism is one of them but I hear the same kinds of arguments as we have here about
vaccines. Your statement about being part of the solution or part of the problem comes right out the Civil Rights Movement. People don't like hearing this because it doesn't allow
fence sitting, wiggle room. I tell people we can discuss how to deal with the problem, but there is no discussion
about where your commitment needs to be. Vaccines are another major one given the extreme damage they do, acutely and long term. Discussing them is also a great venue for educating on the structural nature of vaccines in our society--how they are used to control the population, use of the population as an economic frontier for the drug corporations, the power of the drug corporations in controlling medical education, etc, etc.

It is very frustrating when people argue that being pleasant is more important than principles.

So people don't like being criticized, particularly their belief systems.
Add their sense of entitlement to the issue and you have a brick wall.
Sometimes you need to crack that wall and it may hurt a bit. It may
be strong medicine, but that doesn't make it wrong.

Unless of course if one's principles includes caring about other people and wanting to be able to change their minds, then being pleasant becomes a principle. My mind has never been changed by someone who was treating me harshly; I am guessing that it never will.

I agree with you that the specific episodes that have set this little tempest off were quite mild compared with what this list has seen in years past. These are being used as a way to try to address an ongoing pattern, the one which has led to remarks such as this list being "a scary place", and remarks from people who won't post here because they don't want to set themselves up for abuse.

Some of these remarks were made on-list, and others privately.

It (the remark to Elham) was also on the heels of increasingly frequent put-downs from Sheri to various people -- basically anyone disagreeing with her about anything.

That single remark itself, was not the cause of this discussion.

Adding to Fran's comment about the 'offending phrase' being mild, let me note that in another
group that I was invited to join, I have been accused of not knowing how to think; ie, I have no
relevance in posting comments. Now that was offensive because it was character assassination.
And that is only the tip of the ice berg for really personal, nasty comments. All this because I
dared to criticize one the gods of that group. I finally threatened to post a book of this guys
comments and he went off the wall threatening to sue me. That was nasty and rude and if I
chose to publish his comments as things said in an open discussion with no privacy agreement,
he would surely lose. Not to get into all the details of things rudely and crudely said to me, I share
this only to say that Sheri's comment was not an attack on Elham's character but on his position
of a very important subject. That is fair game.

without it you fail at upholding principles, as nobody gives credence or respect to someone who is rude.

It is not a one or the other issue.
They go together.... principles AND being polite.
